America’s Capacity to Produce Implements of Total War Is Almost Two and One-Half Times That Of Germany, Publisher Déclares.
NEW YORK, Ang. 21 (U. P.).—United States industry has a “wallop index,” based upon its capacity to produce the implements of modern total war, almost two and a half times that of Germany, even with all the territories conquered by the Nazis, according to Col. Willard Chevalier, publisher of Business Week. The publisher told an audience of 6000 persons at the] B. F. Goodrich Co.'s World's | Fair exhibit here last night that this country “still has the edge” over the totali-] tarian states insofar as po-| tential industrial capacity is! concerned. | “As we respond to the task of rearming America against Hitler's bid for world domination,” he said, | “we need have no misgivings about the potential of the economic machine we are operating.” He declared that the United States could produce 242 units of coal, oi steel, autos, electrical equipment and other war essentials for every 100 units that Germany can turn out.
