JANE JORDAN
DEAR JANE JORDAN—My husband and I have been married for a year and a half and have been very happy. He plays in an orchestra and of course that puts him out in public a lot. There is a girl after my husband who is trying to break up our home and happiness. For a while my husband brooded because he thought that I was in love with a boy I used to go with before I got married. We finally got it thrashed out, but it was at this time that the girl started to run after him. She told me herself that he had never encouraged her, and then she said that he asked her for a date. My husband finally got a job elsewhere, but a week ago she showed up again and asked him to meet her. I don't feel that my husband would take her out, but I keep accusing him of it and they say that if you accuse a person long enough he might do it. I can't eat, sleep or anything. My husband ignores her, but she still comes around. How can I rid us of her? HEARTBROKEN.
”
N ” 5 » 5
Avswer—If vour husband ignores her what about? Haven't vou any faith in him at all? haven't vou any faith in yourself? Now the girl already has put herself in a very poor light by running after your husband. No man likes a pushover, but reserves the right to do his own running. Even if he accepted the woman's amorous offers once or twice there would be scorn in his heart, tinged with ridicule. Have you never heard men ridicule women who throw themselves at a man's head? Almost every man who is at all attractive has some silly woman on his neck at sometime or other. The thing that makes him turn down the valueless gift of herself, just for the fun of it, is respect for his wife. He will forego adventures of minor importance to his happiness in order to safeguard his marriage, which is of major importance in his life. Now if his wife turns into a nagging, suspicious, uneasy creature who accuses him of things he didn’t do, can you see how he would think, “What's the use of being faithtul when you don't get any credit for it?” You'll have to pull yourself together and cultivate more poise. The majority of marriages are threatened by a third party at some time or cther. You can guard your interests best by expecting your husband to live up to his marriage vows and by giving him no reason to do otherwise, You don't have vo greet the woman with love and kisses, or give her the opportunity to tell lies about your usband. Why see her at all? She's no friend of yours. Don't be so weak-kneed about the whole thing. Be strong and she'll be afraid of you. Remember, I said strong—not catty. JANE JORDAN.
