WILL HAYS BACK'G.

FOR WILLKIE DAY, AN ARDENT ‘FAN’

Grieved at Goodrich Death: Praises Him, Plans to Go to Funeral.

Indiana's Will H. Hays, tsar of | the movie industry, was back home again today to join in the nation’s tribute to another “homecoming” Hoosier—Wendell L. Willkie. As mevie tsar, Mr. Hays tries to | avoid politics, which once was his career, but the call of Elwood proved | too much for his resistance. The former Sullivan resident, who served as U. S. Postmaster General in the Harding Administration, has known Mr. Willkie and the Willkie family for many years and is one of the Presidential nominee’s most ardent admirers.

Grieved at Goodrich Death

Mr. Hays’ visit here was saddened by the news of the death last night of James P. Goodrich, World War Governor of Indiana. Mg. Hays, who was a ‘Republican district |

chairman at the time Mr. Goodrich | § ol

was state chairman, isued a state- | ment in which he paid high trib- | ute to the former Governor. | “I am deeply grieved over Gov- | ernor Goodrich's death,” he said. | “He was indeed a good citizen, most | distinguished in public service, with | a full life of civic, charitable and religious usefulness | “My continual personal relations with him, since he first sent for me | when I was hardly out of knee | breeches to let me help in Indiana | politics through the war period, | through the later close connections | in Wabash College matters, has | been such as to enable me intimate- | ly to know him fully and to evaluate | his many services. It also has en- | abled me to appreciate his immense | worth to society. |

“His great loyalty to Indiana was |

only equaled by his sterling Amer- | icanism. His passing. is loss.” Mr. Hays, who is stopping at the | Columbia Club, planned to spend | the day and evening here chatting | with old friends and acquaintances. | After attending the Elwood cele- | bration tomorrow, he will go to | Winchester Sunday for Mr. Goodrich’s funeral services, and then return to California.
