Dodging the Heat Wave Has Become The Stay-at-Homes' Chief Endeavor
Stay-at-homes are beating the prolonged heat wave by spending ‘much of their time at country ‘clubs, swimming, playing golf and bridge, or “just loafing.” Entertainment and golf committees of the clubs are doing their bit to take club members’ minds off the weather by planning programs of varied activities. The monthly Tuncheon and bridge party of the Highland Golf and Country Club will be held next Wednesday at 12:30 p. m. Mrs, Floyd Mattice is general chairman of the party and will be assisted by Mrs, L. C. Burnett. Other committee members are Mesdames William V. Kingdon, M. Crosby Bartlett, W. H. Trimble ahd E. N. Trago. Highlands tournament schedule will keep its women golf ‘ehfhusiasts busy until the annual wind-up Oct, 11, On Friday match pay agamst par willtake place at the club with Miss Mary Gorham and Miss Louellen Trimble inh charge of arrangements. Mixed twoball foursome matches will be played Sunday
Club Championship Is Last Week of Month
Mrs. Charles L. Smith and Mrs. Ben Olsen have charge of the club championship matches Aug. 27, 28, 29 and 30. The first ‘day will for qualifications with the qualifying round being used ‘as the W. W. G. A. low net event. The first round of matchds will be played Aug. 28 and a putting contest will be held next day with the second round matches. The finals will be Aug. 30 On the first day of September there will be mixed two-ball foursomes Mrs. Glen Howe and Mrs. Harold Bartholomew will ‘make arrangements for the caddy tournanrent at the club Sept. 6. Members aren't worrying about the “bad luck day.” Friday 13, for that will be guest day. Mrs. Olsen and Mrs. Joseph Brower are to arrange tne program Mrs. C., A. Jaqua and Miss Trimble will conduct Nassau team play Sept. 20. There will be a two-day tournament with gross and net prizes Thursday and Friday, Sept. 26 and 27. arranged by Mrs. M. C. Bartlett and Mrs. Smith. On Oct. 4 there will be an odd or even tournament planned by Mrs, L. L. LyKins and Mrs. Leo ‘Gardner. Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Olsen will conduct final wind-up events Oct. 11.
Highland Members to Play at Hillcrest
Women members of Highland will play in the two-day tournament at Hillcrest Country Club and the Indianapolis ‘Country Club Monday and Tuesday and in the state invitational tournament Fri day, Aug. Several will take part in the tournament at the Broadmoor Club Sept. 16 at which time the annual busiftess ‘meeting, and election officers for the Indianapolis Women's ‘Golf Association will take place Ladies guest day will be observed next Tuesday out at the Indianapolis Country Club.
