GUM-CHEWING KILLER DIES IN GAS CHAMBER
FLORENCE, Ariz., Aug. 9 (U. P)). - Robert Burgunder, brilliant, 23-vear-old college student, was executed today in the state prison gas chamber for the murder of Jaek Peterson, a Phoenix, Ariz, automobile salesman. Chewing gum vigorously, he was taken from the death cell a few minutes before 6 a. m. (Indianapolis Time) and led to the gas chamber. He was wearing a pair of white shorts, no socks and a pair of black oxfords. His hair was plastered to his head. Before he stepped into the chamber, a physician taped a stethoscoNe to his chest and he was asked: “Did you kill Peterson and (Ellis) Koury yourself, or did vou have an accomplice?” “I Killed them both,” he said in an even voice, “You know I've never made a real attempt to defend myself.” Burgunder’'s mother, a divorcee, died three months ago. She had been a radio drama writer, specializing in “creepy” mysteries.

Knox said work in excess of 40 hours would carry the legal rate of time and one-half pay for overtime. He urged that working forces be increased as rapidly as possible to permit the expansion of shift work and reduction of overtime, and said that no employee should be required to work more than 48 hours a week except “as may be essential.’ He made his announcement after conferring with Sidney Hillman, Director of Labor Supply for the National Defense Commission. Col. Knox said that Sunday work should be kept at a minimum and that work of employees not entitled to overtime pay for labor over 40 hours weekly should be reduced wherever practicable,
