JANE JORDAN

DEAR JANE JORDAN—I am a girl in my teens and have liked one boy since I was a little girl, We were brought up together through grade school. I never have been popular although I run with a popular crowd. This boy likes me sometimes, but when a certain girl comes back he prefers her. I talked to her the other day and she admits she doesn't really like the boy, but since he 1S popular she will hang on to him. I've tried liking other boys and do have good times with some of them until I think about this boy or see him again. We always part friends and he says if it wasn't for this other girl he would

like me. When we break up we stay friends and agree to go back te togeth er when he breaks with the other girl. She is very cute and pular and has other boy friends. How can I win him away from tl 18 girl who doesn't really like him for himself but for his standing? BERNESE. Answer—Well the first thing for you to do is to think more of yourself and less of the boy. Is this all you deserve in life—a swain Who is attentive only when the girl of his choice is not available?

What makes him think he can pick up with you when he has left off with her and find you ready, willing and amiable? If vou set no higher value on yourself than this, how can you expect him to value you above all others? If he divided his time between you and said nothing about his preference for one or the other, you would have no cause for complaint. But when he tells vou outright that he has no time for you when the other girl is available, your cue is to find no time for him. Of course you'd like to do the other girl in. Who wouldn't? But in my opinion she is infinitely capable of doing herself in. The chances are that the young man will discover for himself that she has no real interest in him but simply wants to add him to her list of conquests. When this fact dawns upon him, he may come back to you for comfort. If he finds you waiting, like patient Griselda, he will not be thrilled to death, I assure you. But if he finds a devoted rival waiting to drive him away, he may respect your charms more highly. If he likes them cute and popular, why don’t you try being popular yourself? It's not so hard. Apparently the other girl manages it by making each boy feel that she is more interested in him than actually she is.

DEAR JANE JORDAN—I am a girl of almost 16 and have gone with a boy two weeks. We had a little fuss over going to church and I think this is why he quit me. He used tc come over almost every night because we lived close to each other. He said he loved me but he will not tell me why he stopped going with me. I would like to win him back and I love him a lot. Please help me. PUZZLED. Answer—It is not wise for a girl to press a boy for reasons when his interest in her cools down. Half the time he doesn't know why he doesn't come any more. Perhaps he just wants a change. Whatever it is he doesn't like to talk about it. Don’t moon over him any longer but go in for change yourself. All I said in answer to the first letter in this column applies to you, too. JANE JORDAN

BEAUTY

CONTRARY to what your great aunts and grade school teachers sald would happen to you if you didn’t stop making faces behind their backs, the majority of prominent beaut y salon experts now insist that facial muscles need exercise as much as other muscles of the body. Some advocate gum chewing and whistling—in the privacy of your own room, of course. Others furnish sets of special exercises to their smart clientele. Among the routines suggested are these: .. Sit erect with chest high and base of spine touching back of the chair, Without moving your head. twist your mouth to the right as far as possible. Bring lips back to normal position then twist mouth to the left as far as possible. Repeat exercise 10 times. Now fill your mouth with air and puff out your cheeks. Place midale finger of each hand in center of chin and begin patting outward across chin to spots tly below corners of mouth, then

upward past corners of mouth ‘o corners of nose. Exhale as you pat. Repeat 10 time

AGAIN puff out your cheeks and, using fingertips, pat from corners of mouth to bottom of ears, allowing each pat to force a bit of air out through your mouth. Re peat 10 times. Sit erect with chest high. Slowly turn head toward left shoulder, trying to touch your chin to the top of it. Naturally, you eannot touch your shoulder with your chin while holding shoulders square, but try anyway, The strain this puts on facial and neck muscles is wonderful for them. Reverse, turning head to the right and stretching chin toward right shoulder. Repeat eight times It 1s an excellent idea to plan to do exercises for face and threat once a week, preferably the night you give yourself a facial, First of all, cleanse skin thoroughly, do the exercises, then smooth on your mask and try to relax completely while it dries. Afterward

apply your richest cream, patting it well into lines around eyes and mouth and across brow
