NEW YORK. Aug. 3 WU. P).— Rip Radcliff, St. Louis Browns’ outfielder traded away from the White Sox last winter by Jimmy Dykes, strengthened his hold on the American League batting leadership this week by adding six points to his average for a percentage of 370, according to the averages released today and including games of Thursday. Radcliff now leads his nearest rival, Lou Finney of the Red Sox, by 14 points Harry Danning, New York Giants’ catcher, maintained his National League lead by keeping his 341 batting average. Merrill May of the Phillies, who is out of action, remained second with a mark of .329. Buck Newson, Tigers, held the American League pitching lead with 13 victories and two defeats and Freddy Fitzsimmons, Dodgers, maintained his grip on the National League pitching lead with 10 vic tories and one defeat
