MARK TIME iN CAUTIOUS TRADE
Operators Wait Evaluation Of U. S. and Foreign Developments.
NEW YORK, Aug 1 (U.P) .—Increasing caution marked dealings on the Stock Exchange today, traders ithholding commitments pending further evaluation of the latest domestic and foreign developments. The stock list opened mixed in quiet trading, worked irregularly higher during the forenoon and then marked time to the close. Norwegian bonds firmed as much as points on news that the Government would meet its dollar interest, while Japanese issues weakened Bethlehem held a small part an early gain of a point, but U Steel slipped about a point from its high to a minor net loss. Chrysler also backed down almost a point to a slight decline, but General Motors met support just above its previous close United Aircraft gave up almost all of an early rise of more than a point. Douglas was down almost a point and most others in the airplane group were
of
steady. The International alin were active feal common almost a heay turnover and then about half gain, while {erred held almost 2 forenoon 2°: advance, Du Pont and Eastman Kodak were up a point and more in a well supported chemical group. International Harvester 80ld off more than a point

CHICAGO, Aug (U ). Wheat futures were in to firm in a dull session on the Chicago Board of Trade today. Other grams were narrowly irregular. Wheat closed unchanged to off ' cent, September 76-757, Corn was unchanged to down cent, September 61':-%, Oats % to % cent lower, September 30A, and rye ofl 5: cent, September 43':B. Soybeans were unchanged to up 's cent. Private crop estimates released ewlv in the session had little apparent reaction marketwise. Spring wheat prospects again underwent a sharp downward revision, primarily on the basis of heat and drought damage during July The average estimate of six experts was 1£3,000,000 bushels as compared with 222 - 000,000 bushels anticipated by the same six on July 1 Elevator interests were credited with some wheat support late operations
