The announcement of the new ¢ © “defense - importance” designation for Stout Field came from Rep. 3 Louis Ludlow (D. Ind.), in a letter : to Mayor Reginald H. ‘Sullivan, + The designation means that Stout * Field, base for the 38th National . Guard division observation squadi ron, probably will share in the $25,“000,000 appropriation of the. WPA ; Relief Act without the necessity of “a 25 per cent sponsor's contribution. » The War ‘Department thus is *enabled to spend whatever funds would be needed to improve and develop Stout Field, Mr. Ludlow said. New: construction at the field probably would involve runways and hangars. ‘ Officer’ Expected . Soon

Maj. Arthur Wilson, in charge of making the designation, is expected in phe city soon to inspect Stout Field. Two construction projects to be considered in the Works Board “development plan” at the Municipal Airport are a $100,000 hangar and| school building outlined by the Roscoe Turner Air School, and hangars and officers’ quarters for the U. S. «Army reserve air squadron, to be moved from Schoen Field. * Col. AGAINST NAZI BUND

:Gerhart Seger, former member

of the German Reichstag, yesterday permitting Nazi bunds in~ this country. He spoke at Butler University on “What Happened in Germany After the World War.” It was part of a series, “The World Today and Tomorrow,” at the College of Religion sommer session. He said that the German Republic erred after the war by allowing the Nazi bunds to operate. He said it did not recognize the danger of Hitler's semi-military organizations. He added the Republic. did nothing to change the German attitude toward Hitler and his policies. The Treaty of Versailles, he sald, was overestimated as the cause of Hitler's rise to power, since after Germany became a Republic, the Rejchstag had secured revisions ‘eliminating most of the obnoxious points.
