PITTMAN RAPS LINDBERGH FOR ‘CREATING FEAR'
Questions Colonel's Sincerity After Charge U. S, Is Courting Disaster.
WASHINGTON, June 17 (U. P.). —Chairman Key Pittman of the Senate Foreign Relations Commit“tee last night accused Col. Charles A. Lindbergh of creating “uffounded” war fears and lack of confifience in the Government. |
In a radio address, Senator Pittman advised Col. Lindbergh to “throw aside his false political ad‘visers,” and suggested that the Fifth Column might be behind Mr. Lindbergh, without his knowledge, “in attempting to defeat the present leaders of the country.” | “Let Col. Lindbergh and his advisers know,” Mr. Pittman said, “that when one fools with politics "in a national emergency, he is fooling with disaster.” Col. Lindbergh Saturday night had charged that the Government was courting disaster by war-like intervention in Europe and was “making gestures with an empty gun after we have already lost the draw.” Questions His Sincerity
He urged his listeners to demand that their Congressmen halt any : move to enter the European war and concentrate the national effort on rearming for any aggression against the Western Hemisphere. He charged that this country was holding out “false hopes” of aid to the a)jos: Mr. Pittman questioned the sincerity of Col. Lindbergh’s motives and asked whether he had “unwittingly been led into an attack on the President.” “Has the cunning fricitement of his ambition blinded him to the safety of the country?” he asked. “Has Col. Lindbergh failed to read his written speech, or, if he did, to understand that there is an apparent attack upon the patriotism of the Chief Executive of this country? I doubt if he has realized it.” Mr. Pittman said that Col. Lindbergh’s objections of Administration policies seem to center on the fear that “sales of materials to the Allies will involve us in war with Germany.”
Sees Appeasement Support
He suggested that Col. Lindbergh perhaps “still trusts Hitler with regard to the policy of appeasement indulged in by Chamberlain.” Col. Lindbergh, he said, clearly Indicated that Hitler is a threat to _ this country’s security, then added: “Would it be to the welfare of the United States, if Hitler were stopped in "Europe? If he. were stopped there would be no threat against the United States. . . . “He (Lindbergh) attempts to excite and intimidate the citizens of the United States through fear of Hitler. He tells them with the authority of a Pershing that if they get into war with Germany that they have to undertake the impossible task of transporting millions of men from the United States to fight in Germany. He informs our people that this war would last for generations. What a brutal and unfounded assertion!
“No Desire to Conquer Germany”
e United States has no desire to conquer Germany. We simply intend to prevent Hitler from con-
i i . 7
isphere. Instead of the United States untaking the practically impossible t of conveying an Army to Gerny that necessity will be placed n Hitler if and when he ever empts to invade the Western

FLUORESCENT LIGHT
Fluorescent lighting was hailed today at the sixth annual convention of the Indiana Association of
Pnotographers at the Hotel Lincoln|=
as one of the greatest progressive steps made in photography In the last decade. The largest exhibit at the convention deals with fluorescent lighting which is said to have the advantage over the former method of illumination in that it produces no glare, no heat, and is the closest thing to daylight yet made by man. Edward Rech, Evansville, secre-
tary of the organization, said that]
next to fluorescent lighting, perhaps one of the biggest achievements in modern photography is the development of color film. One of the cxhibits at the convention deals with life color prints. However, Mr. Rech said, the use of color film is still too difficult for Popular use. The convention will adjourn tomorrow, following a lecture on fluorescent lighting and a print clinic conducted by several professional photographers.
