‘By J. E. O'BRIEN
It may surprise you, but the postmen who spend the week walking and the fellows who have as their businesses the making of tires, the packing of meat and the production of radio equipment play some of the fanciest golf around this City of ours. At least 64 of them show up for the bi-weekly sessions of the five - year - old Industrial Golf League to dust off par apd bag a siza quota of birdies and eagles. The eight teams already have played four matches apiece this - season, and U, S. Tires and In ternational
Mr. O'Brién Harvester top the standings with
four straight victories. R. C. A. is in third place with three wins and a single loss, while Kingan's has won two and lost as many. All knotted with one triumph and three defeats are SchwitzerCummins, Power & Light and Postoffice. P. R. Mallory, unfortunately, is alone in the cellar with four successive lickings. The league doesn’t want for individual stars, either. For instance, there's Bob Yohler and Ralph Jordan of U. S. Tires, Bill Russell of the Post Office, Dick Keil of R. C. A. and Herb Dietz of Schwitzer-Cummins, all of whom shoot just about as’ low as you could ask from an amateur. Besides these, Kingan has its Harter ‘and Lloyd, R. C. A. its Douglas and ‘International Harvester its Heinlein, Brown and Macy. We wanted to list some of the solo scoring totals, but Mr. Russell, whose job as league vice president includes the keeping of statistics, is a little behind with his figures and can't produce them for a day or two. ~ ‘President Rex Behrman willingly passed along some other information about the league. His own U. S. Tire team has won the title twice and will get permanent possession of the trophy if it: wins again this year. The league hasn't many ironbound rules, but definitely is against any ringers. All players Z-and Mr. Behrman vouches for this—actually are employed hy the firm or organization sponsoring the team. When team play is concluded late in July, the players compete in a medal tournament. The meet drew 50 entrants last year. Most of the firms furnish balls and ‘other equipment’ for | their teams. Mr. Behrman didn't say as much, but we presume the U. S. Rubber team uses and brags about its company's pellets (no paid adv.). ¢ ” ”n 2 INVITATIONS having gone to all the city clubs and to points as far away as Bloomington and “Franklin, 150 golfers are expected at the Indianapolis Country Club tomorrow and Sunday for the 13th annual Derby. This “men only” affair, which I. C. C. members believe is just about tops for fellowship and frolicking, will begin with an 18hole qualifying round tomorrow. And then while the handicap committee goes to work to split

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind., June 14—A record-breaking fleet ol more | than 80 sailing boats is expected to face the starter’s gun tomorrow in ithe Columbia Yacht Club’s 49th annual Chicago-Michigan City race. The first long, distance race of the season, the Michigan City event was first sailed in 1891, in which eight-windjammers participated. The race has been held each year since and has seen ever increasing
fleets leave the Columbia Yacht Club's downtown harbor for Indiana’s famed dune country. Rolland Hatfield, chairman of Columbia’s race committee, said he expects more than 80 craft to set their course “east southeast % east” for Michigan City at 9:30 a. m. Saturday. With fair winds, the vanguaril of this armada should arrive off this Indiana port early in the r..ernoon, with ae smaller and slower boats drifti in up until sundown. A fleet of power boats will carry numerous racing entnusiasts in the wake of the sailors, and Michigan City's yacht harbor will accomodate spectators at the finish line, According to early entries, Robert Benedict's Class A’ yawl, Southern Cross, last year’s victor in the cruising division, will be hard pressed by several new yachts sailing under Chicago colors for the first time.
Among these are two new Class A
entries—Robert T. Wheeler's new Malabar XI and P. H. Danley’s new yawl, Trident. Trident formerly sailed under the Grosse Point Yacht Club flag out of Detroit and is a former Detroit-Mackinac winner.

Sweeping Low, That's Joe
By STEVE SNIDER United Press Staff Correspondent
CHICAGO, June 14. — Julian Black, manager of Heavyweight Champion Joe Louis, said teday it doesn’t matter who referee's Joe's June 20 fight with Arturo Godoy
| because Joe plans to sweep the Chilean right off the floor—like ai--——
yacuum cleaner. Black, however, described himself as highly indignant at reports from New York that Godoy’s manager, Al Weill, has petitioned the New York Boxing Commission to refrain from naming Arthur Donovan as the third man in the ring. “That questions the integrity both of Donovan and the Commission,” Black said. “I've never asked for|p any specific referee either before or after Louis won the championship. Whoever the Commission selects is all right with us—just so he can count up to 10.” “I do, however, desire to go on record as unwilling. to be a party even to an inference that Donovan

He asserted Donovan already had “voted ‘in print” against Challenger Godoy. “If Weill conducts this championship bout like his last two it" won’t make much difference who the referee will be,” Black. said. He referred to championship fights by Lightweight Lou Ambers and Featherweight Joey Archibald, who recently lost their titles with Weill in their corners. :
