War Issues Give Up Less ~~ Than Half of Gains Made Yesterday.
- NEW YORK, June 13 (U. P.).— Stocks receded moderately today in lighter volume after making the best gains of the year in yesterday’s session. Trading was orderly with no un- . due pressure on any section. War issues gave up less than -balf |of their gains of yesterday and other sections followed them down on a smaller scale. A few special issues made wide gains. 7
Loft gained more than 2 points|A in the face of talk of a tax on soft a
drinks. Steels were most active
with declines ranging to more than|4
2 points in Bethlehem, Douglas was down more than 3 points. Rails and oils declined fractions to more than a point. ‘Chrysler lost a point
and General Motors nearly a point. A
Bonds were mixed with U. S. Gov““&nments higher. Wheat lost more than 3 cents a bushel. and corn as much as 4 cents. Other staples were irregular. Norfolk & Western lost .4 points. Declines of 2 points and more were ‘noted in Phelps Dodge, American Airlines, Vanadium and Westire“house Electric. Among the strong spots were .George Helme, Hershey, American Can preferred, and International Business Machines which had gains of 5 or 6 points. Advances of 2|to 3 points were made by Howe Sound,
Lone Star Cement, and Jones & a
Laughlin preferred. American In-
vestment Co. of Illinois preferred|4
jumped 7 points on one sale. | Irregularity .in the market was expldined as a natural ‘ reaction after yesterday’s sharp rise. Business news continued favorable but, analysts said, it had little influence on the list. .

PRICES ON HOGS DROP 25 CENTS
10,597 Porkers Received at Stockyards Here; Demand Is Light.
Receipts of 10,597 hogs at Indianapolis today approximately equaled the number a week ago but reduced demand, especially on shipper account, pushed hog prices 25 cents lower on all weights and classes, the

ported. At the quarter loss, prices were within 5 cents of the six-year low mark. The top dropped to $5.10 for 220 to 230-pounders. Packing sows had a 15-cent loss. Cattle trade was about steady. Vealers rose 50 cents with a $9.50 top. All classes of sheep and lambs
