BY DAVID DIETZ

Scripps-Howard Science Editor | YORK, June 12. The human race, chiefly because of the elim-

ination of raw meat from the modern diet, is moving in the direction of a single ‘sexless type, Dr. F. M. Pottenger Jr. endocrinoligist of Monrovia, Cal, declared here at the annudl convention of the American

Medical iation.

he declared. At the same time disturbances of the ductless glahds and allergies of all sorts are on the increase. Dr. Pottenger bases his claims on observations of young men and women, on ‘experiments on cats, and on successes in treating cases of human allergy with “cannibal sandwiches.” sandwiches of raw ground meat, and with raw liver.

Exhibited in Photographs

These various studies were exhibited in photographs and charts by Dr. Pottenger and his colieagug, Dr. D. G. Simonsen, in the Scientific Exhikit of the A. M. A. in Grand Central Palace. “Originally men were wide shouldered and narrow-hipped,” Dr. Pottenger said. “Women were just the opposite. Today, both are tending toward a single intermediate type.” In support of this claim he exhibited. a number of photographs lof young men and» women in the nude, taken [from the rear, and challenged the visiting doctors to tell which were men and which women. He also exhibited X-rays.of the heads of boys and girls suffering from allergies to show that with the presence of an allergy, the boy tended fo (develop characteristic kone structure of the feminine pro-

Men are becoming more effeminate and women more masculine,

file while. the girl developed masculine features. | He also showed the results of long experiments in which cats were kept on diets which included only cooked meat. He showed X-ray photographs to prove that the females in these experiments underwent structural changes so: that their heads resembled those of males. At the same time, the males developed heads similar to those of females. The offspring of the females, he continued, were sickly and develcoped allergies of various sorts including asthma, skin allergies and gastric allergies. ° Dr. Pottenger said that he had no idea ‘yet why allergies should accompany these other changes, but he said that it was a fact that “a large percentage of asthmatic marriages are sterile.” He added that he did not know what the important factor was in raw meat.

He added that it was difficult to restore the vigor of a family of cats raised on a diet of cooked meat and that it took a succession of four generations fed raw meat to get a complete return to normal health.
