‘BALK’ RULING 10 BE i

AT SKY HARBOR

State Members to to Compete

~~ Sunday Afternoon With ‘Gasoline Models.

By HARRY MORRISON \ The Indiana Gas Model Associa‘tion will utilize the little-used “balk” rule at its meet to be held 2 from noon to 5 p. m. Sunday at Sky . Harbor, on 21st St. west of the Post Road. The meet will be conducted under “N. A. A. open class rules with the

exception of the balk ruling. Any]

flight of 40 seconds or under will be a balk flight and will not eount in .the three whose average time will constitute a record for competition. Officials are going to be “very tough” about assisting the models in takeoffs, they said today. If pos---sible all flights will be rise-off-“ground. If the ground is not - adaptable to this, the planes will be hand launched, but any unnecessy “push will be penalized. They say that meets all over the . country will be firm this year about hand launching and they. see every good reason for starting right with their own meet. The use of Sky Harbor was do--nated on a 50-50 basis by Gordon . Lackey, instructor-pilot there. There - will be an admission fee of 25 cents for each car. Entry fee for the contest is 25 cents and fliers from neighboring towns are invited to compete. »

This meet is expected to, show definitely whether the Class’ B or , Class C models are better. That, + acocrdling to association members, is the reason for making it an open . competition, where models in both clases can: compete against each other. There has not been a definite : word about the respective merits of : the models in Indianapolis, because the fliers rarely time their flights. #They know generally when they ; have: a good flight and, for anothek «thing, few of them own stop “watches. The Ohllson motor is expected to ‘favor the larger, Class € ships, by + getting them just as far in the air {in the 20 seconds allowed for flight. “The larger gliding surface on the C models is expected "to keep them : up longer,
