given to it. The trip covers apoximately 425 miles. Leaving Indianapolis with the noon whistle still echoing, the drive of 128 miles to Vincennes, the oldest city in the sate, is easily negotiated. Historical Spots Available There is sufficient time after arriving to visit the impressive George Rogers Clark Memorial commemorating the winning of the northwest, and the Lincoln Memorial Bridge at the Old Kaskaskia Ford, where the Lincoln family crossed from Indiana to Illinois in 1830. Territorial Hall, first capitol of Indiana Territory, is in Harrison Park. It is restored and some of the furnishings are original. There is the Treaty Tree and the old Cathedral and there is the Cathedral Library containing many rare old volumes half of which were printed béfore 1700. The Sunday morning drive to New Harmony covers approximately 12 miles. “Harmonie,” as its founder George Rapp named it, is one of the most historically interesting communities in Indiana. The Rappite Community founded in 1814 was socialistic and financially suce cessful. Many of the original homes still stand. The museum is of particular interest containing what is believed to be the paintings of the students of Michel Angelo. Sold to Robert Owen - “Harmonie” was sold to Robert Owen who changed the name to New Harmony whose experiment in a communistic community proved unsuccessful. From New Harmony, the route may continue through Evansville, Gentryville, and Lincoln City. It
