Jimmy Phend . he'll renew an old feud.

Times Special MUNCIE, Ind, May 23—Jimmy Phend, Ball State’s Goshen Ghost of gridiron fame, is one of the galaxy of stars to perform here in the Little State track meet Saturday. Phend will renew an old rivalry with George (Red) Montooth of DePauw and Butler's Tom Harding in the 100 and 220-yard dashes that should produce blistering speed. Phend and Harding have been selected as all-In-diana conference backs in football for two consecutive autumns, with speed and elusiveness their forte. Montooth is the Little State sprint champion of last

year. Other individual luminaries tomorrow include Rosy Southworth and Charles Marshall of Butler, Meadows of Taylor and Dick Stealy of Ball State. Butler is a distinct favorite to win its ninth Little State crown since the classic began in 1923, with Ball State and DePauw scheduled to be locked in combat for the place position. Other schools entered are Indiana State Earlham, Rose Polytechnic, Indiana Central, Taylor, Wabash and Central Normal.

CHICAGO, May 238 (U. P)~— Right now, dethroning Michigan as Big Ten track champion is the order of’ the day down at Indiana. Private feuds are out. But come Saturday, if the luck of the draw falls just right, the two best quar-ter-milers in Big Ten history—one New York .... from Michigan and the other a Enid pnia Hoosier—will renew a bitter rivalry|st og is .... that may decide the team cham- oH pionship. Coach E. C. (Billy) Hayes, Indiana’s developer of world champions, is wrestling with his conscience. He wants to win the Conference title. His trump card, Roy Cochran, wants to meet Michigan's great quartermiler, Waren Breidenbach, in an attack on the 24-year-old Conference record of 47.4 seconds. These events, in addition to] the grueling 440, may be too much for the sandy-haired Hoosier bullet Box Score— unless the draw for Friday's preliminaries spaces his three trials far apart. It's up to Hayes to decide. If he goes to the post against Breidenbach, it will be the best Conference quarter-mile race of all time. Lacy Cochrane’s style is to get out in A front and stay there, regardless of the time. Breidenbach is a cinch to extend him-—and probably win.

How to Right Those Hooks

By ART KRENZ NEA Service Golf Writer

Ed Dudley's most vital fault is hooking. In correcting it Dudley makes certain he turns his body

with the club instead of picking up the club for the backswing while his feet are arched. Worked correctly, this gives the tall Georgiah sufficient leverage to og make the swing back to the ball without throwing the club from the top, which he considers the worst fault of the average golfer.

Many average|—

golfers try to hit, instead of swinging, the club. “To make a good swing the player must get Ed Dudley in the correct position at the top of it,” explains Dudley. “Failure to arrive at the correct position makes the player swing very fast and that throws the club and body out of time. “The average player who attempts to hit at the top of the backswing, instead of swingeag the club down
