REPUBLICAN
STATE CONVENTION
TO BE HELD MAY 24th, 1940, IN INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA
Speedway City, Indiana To the Delegates to the May 23rd, 1940
Republican State Convention
® As a Candidate for the nomination for Governor of this great Hoosier State, | shall at all times work for the best interests of all its citizens no matter what their walks in life may be.
® | assure you | shall never assume | am bigger than my Party! Nor will | at any time use the position of Chief Executive in the promotion of further personal political ambition!
® | believe in the principles of the Founders of our Republic,---principles which have always been exemplified by the Republican Party.
® | believe in SIMPLICITY in the administration of government!
® | believe in the citizens of our State and Nation being governed by laws passed by our Legislative Bodies instead of by a haphazard bunch of rules and regulations set up from the whims and fancies of the members of some Board or Commission.
® | believe in HOME RULE for the citizens of Indianal | shall
use my every effort to ever keep intact our Township, Town, County and City form of government.
® | believe in government keeping its nose out of business! Business cannot succeed if it is continually harassed by governmental agencies.
® | believe prosperity for all citizens greatly depends on the prosperity of THE FARMER. The farmer is entitled to a profit above all costs the same as any other line of endeavor, and he must have it before we can return to permanent prosperity.
.
® | believe that CAPITAL IS LABOR and LABOR IS CAPITAL
and both should walk arm in arm for the welfare of all.
® | believe that all citizens should give freely and fully of their own efforts for their own support, thereby making the cost of government less.
® | believe in feeding the hungry, caring for the disabled, maintaining our State Institutions with humane efficiency and doing all within our power to sanely enhance the welfare of all citizens.
® [believe there is a BETTER WAY TO CARE FOR THE AGED, so they can keep their self-respect and be rewarded for always having been good citizens, than compelling them to search the frozen heart of Charity for a mere existence.
® | believe in the Constitution of the United States of Americal | pray it shall ever be kept inviolate! It has been this sacred instrument that has given us all we have enjoyed, --- Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Press, Freedom of Worship and all our inherent rights and privileges.
® | shall use my every effort to REDUCE THE BURDEN OF TAXATION now borne by our citizenry!
® | am unalterably opposed to Autocratic Centralized Government of any kind or character! .
® | am a Republican! | have ever and always been a Repub-
~ lican!
® | respectfully submit my candidacy for your most earnest and thoughtful consideration.
Sincerely,
LEM TROTTER.
