‘s 31 cents at the close, May 95%%c. ‘1,1 Despite a first hour rally which carried May wheat fractionally above the previous close, prices settled back and for a time moved ir- . regularly at levels 2 to 5 cents be- | low the previous close. The last- | minute dive wiped out more than | half the total gain scored by wheat !since last September when the Euro- | pean war began. The total drop {was 20 cents in two days. Trade at mid-session was a contrast to the early frenzied efforts | to execute long overdue selling or‘ders. Some traders indicated that they believed today’s war dvelopments more favorable but fears that | Germany was gambling everything + lon a short war more than offset this feeling. Early buying largely was |attributed to Eastern accounts and mills were on the buying side to (some extent.

THE KEY TO THE CITY
The fact that Indianapolis is in the cen-
ter of a prosperous state, which, in turn, is
at the heart of the nation, will continue to be a basic assurance of further growth. But the real key to the economic security of its residents is found in the diversification of
their earning activities.
While the prosperity of many cities parallels that of one or two industries, the purchasing power of Indianapolis arises from a multitude of sources. Few other
metropolitan areas enjoy a comparable balance between employment due to commerce and industry, and employment due directly
or indirectly to agriculture and stock raising.
It is natural that a community like this should require the complete banking services of an institution like American National whose far-reaching connections match the needs of forward-looking Indianapolis business men,
