PUBLIC TO INSPECT PROJECTS IN STATE

All WPA “white collar” projects in Indiana will be inspected next week, State Administrator John K. Jennings announced today. The public inspection is a part of the nationwide “This Work Pays Your Community Week” which begins Monday. Inspection will cover all units of the WPA Professional and Service Division. Plans have been completed for the reception of more than 200,000 visitors at WPA sewing rooms, nursery schools, adult education classes, recreation centers and other division projects. During the week, radio broadcasts on the work of the division will be made by Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt; Col. F. C. Harrington, WPA Commissioner, and Mrs. Florence Kerr, assistant commissioner. Dinners will be held in Indiana in conjunction with the broadcasts at 190 project sites.

LAZY BANDIT SENTENCED

Leroy Haley, known as the “lazy bandit” because he would rob filling station attendants without leaving is car, was found guilty in Criminal Court today and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Special Judge Edward Ryan found him guilty of having robbed Fred Otting, a filling station attendant at 1801 Madison Ave. on June 7, 1934.
