FORECAST INCREASE IN FARM PROSPERITY |
WASHINGTON, May 6 (U. P).— The Agriculture Department today forecast increased farm prosperity this year despite indications of continued small exports. “Prospects are for some improvement in domestic demand this summer and fall, but export demand continues restricted by foreign quotas and other trade barriers,” the Bureau of Agricultural Economics sald. Farm income this year has been well ahead of a year ago and probably will reach a higher total for the first six months of this year
compared with last because of higher average prices for farm products, the Bureau said. The general index of farm prices has increased to approximately the 1910-1914 level for the first time in nearly three years. The index of prices which farmers pay, however, still is 123 per cent of the 1910-1914 level, Principal factors in the increase in farm income have been improved domestic consumer demand. Wheat prices are substantially higher due to a sharp reduction in winter wheat Cotton and feed grains also are higher.
