EX-NORTH CAROLINA SENATOR DIES AT 86

NEW BERN, N. C., May 1 (U P.) —Former U. 8. Senator Fumifold McLendal Simmons, whose bolt of the Democratic Party i 1928 led North Carolina to vote Republican for the first time since reconstruction days, died vesterday at the home of a daughter, Mr. Simmons, kingpin of North Carolina Democrats from the tum of the centurv until 1930, was 86 last Jan. 20. He had been 1m failing health for manv months and was returned home at his own request Friday after a month's treatment in Duke Hospital, Durham, N, C. Funeral services were to be held at 4 p. m. today from Christ's Bpitopl, Church here.

PENNSYLVANIA UNION ACTS ON THIRD TERM

PITTSBURGH, May 1 (U. P).— The Pennsvivania Federation of Labor, which heard President William Green of the A. F. of L. attack John IL. Lewis, head of the nval C. I. OO. for “disloyaly to thé President,” met todav to consider resolutions indorsing President Roosevelt for a third term. . At least five such resolutions have been submitted to the state tederation bv union locals. The Pitisburgh local of the Bakerv Drivers Union, affiliated with the powerful Teamsters International, has passed a resolution requesting that Mr. Roosevelt run for a third term.
