PRICES YIELD: HOG RECEIPTS TOTAL 10,950

Best Pulled Down to $6.45: Vealers Dip 50 Cents At Stockyards.

Hog prices slumped 10 to 15 cents at Indianapolis today as receipts

increased to 10,950 head, the Agricul- a

tural Marketing Service reported. The 15-cent decline was made on hogs weighing more than 160 pounds, while lighter the dime. The top was $6.45 on 220 to 230-pound weights. dropped 50 cents to a $10.50 top. The loss was in line with a generally weak to lower trend at other markets. Twelve principal markets rolled up a ‘total of 64,000 hogs against 55,000 last Monday, offsetting bullish advices from the dressed pork trade.

A A little unevenness cropped out Cows |

in steer and heifer trade. and ‘bulls generally cleared at fully steady prices. Shorn Western lambs, comprising practically all ‘of | the sheephouse receipts here, held steady with prices early last week.

General Motors Chairman Reports Quarterly Profits Gain.

NEW YORK, April 20 (U.P). Alfred P. Sloan Jr, chairman of the General Motors Corp. said today that he saw indications of an end to the present downturn in business and reported first quarter earnings of the company at the best level since 1028. In a review to stockholders accomspanying his report of the organization's operations in the first three months this year, Mr. Sloan stated: “At the time of this writing, this downward course (in business) appears to be losing its force, indicating perhaps the end of this particular movement,” First quarter earnings totaled equal after preferred dividends, to $150 per common share, compared with $53,177,028, or $1.18 per share in the first three months of 1039. These earnings represented the highest first quarter income reported since 1928, when $1 54 per share.

The chairman said that while the income figures included the company's equity in earnings of subsidiary companies not consolidated, it did not include foreign profits

%|of $2,849,178 which could not be

transferred from abroad on account

‘lof foreign exchange restrictions.

First quarter earnings also were reduced by a charge of $1,744,566
