STOCKS MOVE IRREGULARLY ~ RAILS ADVANCE

Forecasts of Increased Carloadings Help Carrier Shares.

NEW YORK, April 24 (U. P).— Stocks moved irregularly through the first three hours of today's session with volume moderate. Railroad issues featured major groups. Great Northern preferred touched 28% up 1': and held half the gain. Smaller advances were made by New York Central, Pennsylvania, Southern Pacific and Chesapeake & Ohio. Higher carloadings forecasts helped carriers. There were a few other favorable market items, including a rise in electricity output, high estimates of earnings for steel companies, Iron Age statement that steel operations are holding their own, and several good income reports. Steel and automobile issues were slightly lower. Numerous special issues were higher and some made
