State Department Prepares To Open Consular Office In Reykjavik.
~ WASHINGTON, April 17 (U. P.). —The State Department prepared today to establish direct relations wifh Iceland by opening soon a con- . sular office at Reykjavik, the Icelandic caiptal. It was anounced last night that Secretary of State Cordell Hull has replied favorably to the suggestion of Prime Minister Hermann Jonasson, that Iceland wished to enter into “direct relations” with the United States. Prior to the German invasion of Denmark, Iceland's affairs here were cared for by the Danish Minister and a special trade commissioner in New York. Iceland has one of the oldest parliaments in the world but formerly acknowledged sovereignty to the King of Denmark. It proclaimed its
complete independence of the Dab- Ban
ish crown last week after the man occupation of Denmark. ————————————————————
