HAVRE DE GRACE, Md, April 16 (U. P.)—One of the ‘biggest little races of the year came up at Havre de Grace today when Andy K., second choice to Bimelech in the Ken. tucky ‘Derby future hooks, faced three rivals in his first start of 1940
—g test of the injured ankle which]
caused him to swerve last year. The race, the $1500 Magnolia Handicap, was scheduled over a sixefurlong route on a fast track under clear skies. Andy K. was assigned top weight of 120 pounds and opposed Tower Stable’s Royal Man
and Hugh Dufford’s Cockerell, both
Derby contenders, and John Jones Hayam. The Millsdale colt was shipped here from New York to take advantage of the comparatively soft and slow Maryland strip. A straight victory, with no signs of swerving, was regarded as certain to back his price
‘(down from 10-1 in the books to around 6-1, while a beating or: a
wandering effort would have the opposite éffect on the odds.
Howe Thinlies Fall
Howe's track team suffered a defeat at the hands of the Southport runners, 78'2 to 38%, yesterday afternoon on the victors' course. Kesterson, Cardinal sprint man, captured scoring honors with 314 points.

DETROIT, April 18 (U. BP). =— Predictions that the 1040 American Bowling Congress tournament would be a record-breaking classic received morc consideration today after George Pallage, a slight, bespectacled Akron Rubber Co. clerk, posted the first perfect score. Pallage’s 300 late yesteday was the seventh in A, B. C, history and boosted optimism which had sagged for more than a month while comparatively low scores stuck among the first 10 places on the standings board. Bowling slowly and carefully Pallage took a short rest after his 10th successive strike. The entire gallery at the Coliseum was cheering him. In his first two games he had
shot home the final two strikes in perfect fashion and, legs shaking, walked from the alleys. All he could say for an hour afterward was, “All kidding’ aside, did I really make it?” ’ Another Akron bowler, Encil Carpenter, took fifth place in the all-events with 1931. He shot 705 with the Adams Funeral Home team Sunday night, 609 in the doubles and 617 in the singles. A third Ohio representative, the Creep Inn. No. 2 of Cleveland, rushed into eighth place in the team standings with 2932 on counts
of 965-1015-992.
