Earlier, an irregular advance was led ‘by aircrafts and other war issues. Trading picked up sharply on the decline. : : European dollar bonds declined 1 to 3 points over a broad front, creating an irregular trend in the domestic list. Italian Government bonds declined 2!7 points to a new low for the year at 52 as investors continued to press offerings on the market. Japanese issues also registered losses ranging from 1% to 2 points, while Norwegian and other Scandinavian issues declined fractionally.

Dr. Marcus Nadler . . . to talk on “Our Gold Problem.” :
Dr. Marcus Nadler, professor of finance at, New York University, will speak at the annual convention of the Indiana Bankers’ Association here May 15-16. His subject will be “Our Gold Problem.”
Dr. Nadler, a student and analyst on banking and financial subjects, was research assistant of the Federal Reserve Board from 1921-24 and chief of the Beard’s Foreign Division from 1926-27. He has written several textbooks on finance and is the author of a number of magazine articles. At present he is consulting economist of the Central Hanover Bank & Trust Co. New York.

Indianapolis business statistics for | 6: March reflected “encouraging advances in most phases of activity,” the monthly business review of the Chamber of Commerce said today.
The Brooke, Smith & French national survey’ placed Indianapolis business 3 per cent above normal, compared with 2 per cent above in February and 4 per cent below for March, 1939. Biggest increases shown for the month were ih number of new cars
Auto sales were 118 per cent above those in February and 185 per cent above March of ‘1936. There were 40 per cent more plane passengers than in February and 50 per«cent|

Building permits rose in total value 115 per cent from February, but. were still 68 per cent short of the all-time high of the same month last year. Permits for residential building held up best, being 180 per cent above the Februaty value and only 20 per cent below the March, 1939, record. Inbound and outbound carloadings both showed losses, from February and from March, 1939, as|4 ‘well.
