honored at the second annual journalism conference of public schools at Butler University Monday evening. Four of the prizes were won a the recent Columbia Scholastic Press Association contest in New York City. “The Broadcaster’ of School 39 and “Whittier Whittlings” of School 33 won first place honors there. The “Wallace Faster News” of School 32 won second prize and “The Herald” of School 16 won third place. These were the only four newspapers entered from Indianapolis, The prize winning publications will be on display during the din-

Times Special TERRE HAUTE, Ind, April 12— Sixty-four top-ranking high school seniors in 45 Indiana counties received scholarships amounting to $5600 awarded by the Indiana State Teachers College for the 1940-41 academic year. The awards will be renewed if students receiving the scholarship keeps their grades on a high level. Ifidiana State Teachers awards two scholarships annually i cach county. Members of the Indianapolis McGuffey Club will meet tomorrow at the Central Library to complete plans for an old fashjoned| spelling bee at Anderson, Ind. | Ten Indianapolis members will compete with the Anderson team Wednesday in the contest which is sponsored by the Anderson Herald. The McGuffey Eclectic Speller 1879 | edition, will be used in the spelling bee to be held at the Anderson High School. More than 2000 persons are expected to attend. Judge Willis E. They will spend two days at headquarters here, then will be separated in pairs for three-day surveys at outlying posts. They will return to headquarters here for an additional day’s study. Patrolman Irving A. ‘Mott, Denver, who is attending the institute, will come here next week to study traffic control methods of the Indianapolis Police Department.
