Twenty-nine per cent more employers requested the Indiana State Employment Field - Office here %o supply workers last month than asked in December, the holiday month, George J. Smith, office manager, reported today. . Mr. Smith said it indicated a wider distribution of ®jobs. among employers, although the total number placed on jobs in March was 36 less than in December. The March report showed that 1424 persons were hired by local employers as compared with 1276 in Pebruary and 1320 in January. New applications for employment were at about the same level as during the past six months, but the office’s active file decreased 2500. The rolls dropped from 32,759 applicants March 1 to 29,260 on March 30. Many applicants did not come into the office and Mr. Smith presumed that a large number of them probably had obtained jobs.
