5 DAYS REMAIN ~ IN MUSIC DRIVE

Second Report. Meeting Due Tonight; Sevitzky’s Three “Seasons Reviewed.

As the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra's campaign for public subscription to the maintenance fund swung into the stretch today with five days to go, volunteer workers were to meet for their second report meeting at the ‘Athenaeum at 8'p. m. Meanwhile statistics completed for the three seasons under Fabien| Sevitzky's direction revealed the| orchestra's contribution to Indiana's cultural reputation,” as well as to

_ the advancement of the American

composer and the musical enlightenment of its audiences. That Mr. Sevitzky.and the or-

| chestra have become well and fav- | orably known is attested by the fact

that they have given 14 compositions their world premieres, and other works for the first time in America. Several of these new works were dedicated to Mr, Sevitzky. In the three season’s.totaling 60 weeks, the orchestra has played 114 concerts in Indiana and four in other states. In addition there have been 46 broadcast concerts in the three major networks, the majority of which have Keen short-waved to Europe and South America as well as broadcast throughout. the United States. Of the 293 compositions by 180 composers played during this period, 81 have been American works, representing the output of 59 native or naturalized composers or arrange: ments. The American eompositions included in various classifications are overtures; preludes and introductions; three of suites and] miscellaneous | compositions; six of

~ 53 concertos and other pieces per-

formed by soloists; six |of 16 works

~ performed by the orchestra and the

Indianapolis Symphonic Choir.
