TRAFFIC POWER

Increase in Efficiency Is ‘Goal; Question Studied By City Lawyers.

~The City Legal Department today sought to determine whether City Council may vest the Safety ~ Board with blanket powers to

_ establish speed limits, loading zones and designate parking spaces. The Board yesterday concluded that it could function more efi- ~ ciently with such power, instead of going to the Council with a sep- - arate ordinance for each speed or parking regulation. . ~The subject came up during discussion of safety proposals submitted by the Indianapolis Accident Prevention Council.

Trial Speed Requested

In brief, the Accident Prevention Council suggested that the speed - limit in the City outside of the : downtown area be reduced at night “ from 30 to 25 miles an hour for a : 80-day trial period. The Council also ; suggested that parking regulations : at intersections be changed so that no cars could park nearer than 25 feet from the cross-walk, instead of : 25 feet from the curb intersection as ‘at present. : The Board approved the resignations of Former Fire Chief Jesse A. Hutsell and Lieut. Oito W. Petit of the Police Department, They have announced their candidacies for Republican nomination for sheriff. In the Fire Department, Firemen Frank Kissel, Curtis Nicholson, Elmer J. Claffey and William J.
