Dr. Wicks to Talk on Finland— Dr. Frank S. C. Wicks, pastor emeritus of All Souls Unitarian Church, will describe conditions in Finland in a talk at the Lions Club luncheon tomorrow at the Claypool Hotel. Dr. Wicks visited Finland last fall shortly before the ‘nation was invaded by the Soviet.

Accused Slayer Surrenders

After 4 Hours of Freedom

Times Special CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind., March 12.—Thomas A. Boys, accused of slaying an Attica schoolgirl, was held under special guard at City

Jail here today following his escape from the County jail yesterday. He surrendered peacefully last night, after four and one-half hours of freedom. Harry Anderson, 60-year-old jailer beaten by Boys as he made his escape, was under care of a physician. The extent of his injuries had not been determined fully. Boys, 27-year-old Attica man, is charged with the murder last July of 11-year-old Elizabeth DeBruicker. He told police when he surrendered shortly after 9 p. m." last night at & Crawfordsville home that his memory was a blank and he recalled none of the events of his escape .and interval of liberty, He said he awakened in the back ~ yard of the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Louis Stanford, went to the door and knocked. Mr. Stanford, former assistant postmaster of Crawfordsville, opened the door and Boys said: “Will you please call the police? I've just come to myself.” At that time he was the object of a police search in which the Illinois and Kentucky borders had been blockaded. At 4:45 p. m. yesterday, Jailer Anderson was returning Boys to his cell after the prisoner had taken a bath. As they neared his cell, Boys produced a length of broomstick and began beating Mr. Anderson. He. then fled through an unlocked side door and disappeared.

"Within 45 minutes of the escape, State Police had concentrated 80 officers in 40 cars in the central and southwestern sections of the state yhere Boys was believed to have

Police Chief Merle Remley and State Policemen James Gilliland and James Miller went to the Stanford home in answer to Mr. Stanford’s call and found Boys rocking in a chair, apparently dazed. He surrendered without protest.

Razor Blades Found

They found several razor blades and a safety razor in his shirt with a note which read: “Please inform my. wife. never be taken alive.” He told them he had hidden the blades and written the note several days before when he was contemplating suicide. After the capture, it was learned that Boys had told the night jailer Sunday that it would: be his last night in jail. It was‘ also revealed after the escape and capture that the Montgomery County jail has been condemned three times by the State Fire Marshal, the Montgomery County Grand Jury and the State Welfare Department. :

EXPECTED TO GET LIQUOR POST AGAIN

County Commissioners are expected to re-appoint Raleigh Burk to the Marion County Liquor Control Board. The commissioners

must make their decision by Friday, the date when Mr. Purk’s ones year term of office expires. Mr. Burk is one of the Democratic members of the Board. Other members appointed last year are Lawrence Miller, Republican, and William Sidlinger, Democrat.
