* DEAR JANE JORDAN—We are both 22 and have been married, 8 year. I have told her every place I went, everyone I saw and ‘what we talked about. Whenever I tell her that I talked to one of my girl classmates she accuses me of still being in love with her. She gets mad if I even look at someone on the street. I get her anything she wants, regardless of price, and take her any place she wants to go. Yet when I come home from work I very seldom get a warm supper. When she takes off her coat, hat and gloves she throws them down in a chair or any place she takes a notion to put them and there they stay until I move them. She doesn’t fix my clothes or keep the apartment straight. I ‘have scrubbed the floor more than once, and it is just as much as I can stand. She has accused me of stepping out on her, ‘which I
haven't done until last month, but she knows nothing about it. She accused me until I thought I would just go ahead and do it. I am just about at the end of my rope. I am taking it-and not saying a word but I will take just so much. How much does a divorce cost? There are no children and we are both young enough to have a chance to start life anew again. TABACK.
Answer—As a rule an exchange of partners in marriage is simply an exchange of problems. Another wife might not leave her coat and hat lying around or goad you into stepping out, but she would do something else to which you would find 1t equally hard to adjust. The problem of adjustment seems to burst upon young married couples as a complete surprise. Nobody ever told them that they would bump up against disagreeable traits in the other person in time. Nobody ever told them that after the first blush of love has faded there would be times when the once-loved partner actually
would get on their nerves. : Now you can’t run every. time you encounter personal traits which you do not like. It is not necessary for you to do all the changing ‘yourself, however. You must have the strength of character to demand improvement in your wife. A strong man knows how to rebuke his wife without alienating her affections, and how to alter his own behavior in order to give her fewer complaints against him. Eventually sincere young couples learn a technique of living together which, although it is not the ecstatic existence which they hoped for, is good enough to make their marriage into a going concern. I think you've given up on your marriage too soon. I do not approve of your method of taking what you do not like in silence. If your wife doesn’t know what displeases you, how can you expect her to be any better? Try harder to get her to mend her ways before you adopt the futile method of cheating to escape an unpleasant situation. : JANE JORDAN.

PATTERN 953
BASQUE-FROCK FOR CHIC JUNIOR MISS
A “forward march” on fashion has this pert and engaging frock with its military-basque lines. For it’s Just enough ahead of fashion to keep in style for a long time to come, Claire Tilden’s Pattern 953 is perfect for wear about campus, in the office or for “downtown” days. First, see how the bodice is amusingly patterned after a cadet’s uniform, with a very feminine appealing result. The curved panels, front and back, widen your shoulders. They're made even smarter with rows of buttons in front and four buttons, placed military fashion, at the lower back. The skirt curves up a’ the sides for & fitted, young look and forms striking points at the center front and back. Youll like the blithe fulness of the skirt with its double back panel for extra swish. If you want to soften the style a bit, use a ribbon sash in gay contrast and tie it, bustle-effect, in back. The sleeves may be long or short, and there's a trim, rounded little collar that matches or contrasts. Pattern 953 is cut in junior miss sizes 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19. Size 13 requires 3% yards 39-inch fabric and % yard contrast. Send orders to Pattern Department, Indianapolis Times, 214 W. Maryland St. Send fifteen cents (15c¢) in coins for this pattern: Write clearly size, name, address and style number.
