Barrett Ball, retired Indianapolis police patrolman, died today at City Hospital after a three-month ill-
ness. He was 60 and lived at 3310.
Broadway. . A native of Henderson, Ky., Mr. Ball was appointed to the police force Jan. 5, 1914. He was on leave of absence from 1917 to 1922 while he served in the Army. He was a member of the National Guard for many years. force several weeks ago. Survivors include his wife, Neva; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Virginia Puckett, of Indianapolis; four brothers, Charles, Harry and Arch, all of Indianapolis, and Joseph of Ft. Wayne, and one sister, Mrs. Lillian Heim, New Carlisle, Ind.
FINDS FLORIDA DIRT GONE WITH THE WIND
Works Board President Louis C. Brandt returned to his duties to‘day after a three-week vacation in St. - Petersburg; Fla. “where . Mother Nature substitutes for a Municipal Board’ of Works,” he said. Mr. Brandt told his colleagues here that he set out one day in ‘St. Petersburg to find a Works Board only to discover there wasn’t any. ¥ Nature takes care of cleaning the streets while the job of making public improvements is handled by a City Engineer, he said. “All they do is wait until the wind blows, and the wind blows all the time,” Mr. Brandt said. “It blows the dirt right out of town.” Works Board members listened gravely and sighed.
