By J. E. O'BRIEN
THE SCHEDULE-MAKERS have served up another tough plate-full for the dopesters this week-end. That
“better-than-.700” average of we're coming out swinging,
last week makes us bold and but by Saturday night we'll
probably be flat on the canvas, Here's how three of the big
college games appear: " * Purdue over Illinois. Hapac & Co. should find the Boiler-
makers still bitter about a de-
‘feat by Indiana. Indiana over Northwestern. But- ~ ler almost did it with the secondstringers. - Putler over Marquette. Despite that height and “hidden ball’ tricks.
On the Schoolboy Front And now for tonight’s high school eadliners: : . Manual over Broad Ripple. The Rockets will have to*win before we'll pick ‘em again. Warren Central over Cathedral. A hard one to figure. ~ Washington over Ben Davis, And maybe a sectional preview. . Huntington over Alexandria. Home floor, ho hum. Bedford over Jeffersonville. There is room for argument. Vincennes over Bloomington. Mone County citizens won't like
Columbus over ' Seymour. Objections overruled. New Castle over Connersville. On Comparative scores against Muncie “Central. Having His Troubles Southport over Delphi. A boost for Marion County. Elwood over Tipton. You can . hear the fireworks from here. Evansville Central over Evans-
Bide the city limits. Rushville over Franklin, South Central warfare. Shelbyville over Greensburg. Another downstate battle. Martinsville over Jasper. Betting hever encouraged. Logansport over Lafayette. The Berries should be able to do it again. South Bend Central over La Porte. Central is on its way. Marion ‘over Muncie Central. Merrily those Giants roll along. Muncie Burris over Peru. should win one this evening. North Vernon over Scottsburg. No comment.
It Goes On and On
The tomorrow games: Anderson over Tech. The Indians should have learned a lesson from Marion. East Chicago Washington over Gary Lew Wallace. Big doings up- { state. Mishawaka over Elwood. Let's not fight about it. Huntingburg over Princeton. The Hunters sre at home, if nothing
Terre Haute Garfield: over Clinfon. Working without much dope. Gary Emerson over Gary Horace Mann. Another neighborhood brawl. Terre Haute Wiley over Evansville Bosse. But you can never tell. Ft. Wayne North over South Bend Washington. There are plenty of

Bowling:
The 700 ranks were found wanting today but Owen Fancher of the Printcraft League rolled a 696 last night at the Pritchett Alleys and that was sufficient to put him in the kingpin spot today. Not far behind Mr. Fancher were five pinmen who did considerable damage in the Universal loop, all topping the 650 mark. They were O. Berry, 664; Giltner, 654; Jerry Prochaska, 653; Carl Keifer, 652, and S. Smith, 650. The second place honors today go to Ed Pearson, who got a 679 in Parkway Recreation competition, with Pete Riester getting a 675 in the St. Catherine’s League at Fountain Square Alleys. . Among the younger ranks of top flight performers was Lee Royer, 17-year-old pin boy, who crashed through with a 660 for Ellis Garage. And Lee just got started at the game this year. Butler Has a Problem: The Hilltoppers
WW
The usual Friday menu of basketball practice was administered to the Butler Bulldogs today.
But missing from the workout was any solution of how to knock the Marquette University team down a notch or two tomorrow night when the two clubs battle at 8:15 o'clock in the Fieldhouse,
Marquette’s Hilltoppers will look down upon Bute
ler starters from
an average height of 6-feet-2, the
tallest man, Ralph Amsden, being 6-feet-4. The shorty of Marquette’s first five will be Willlam Staffeld, an even 6 feet. .
The Butler squad is in the process of establishe -
ing an all-time scoring record for Coach Tony Hinkle, The Bulldogs already have collected 784 points in 19
games to surpass
the season's high of 754 scored in
20 games of the 1934-35 season, The university record, however, is not expected to be approached. That was in 1921 when when Pat Page’s squad scored
1046 points in 31
games. The following season they
garnered 946 in 27 games.
Tomorrow is the 14th meeting of the two schools on the hardwood, Butler having won nine times. Since Bill Chandler became head coach in 1930, however, Marquette has won on three of five occasions. Butler has dropped three in a row to Marquette by
scores of 39 to 32,
25 to 20 and 43 to 36.
A triumph over Marquette this time will put
Butler over the No. 13 hump: where it now stands as against six defeats.

Four games yet remain on
The hockey Capitals don’t have to use their. imagination today to
38! feel the hot breath of a couple of
International-American League competitors on their necks. Our western leaders’ 4-3 loss to the Providence Reds at the Coliseum last night pushed the victors’ Although the Reds are in the eastern division, their sum is just four points shy of the Caps, while Cleveland trails the Hoosiers by a scant five points in the Western Division. Such is the situation as the Caps shove off today for a seven-game eastern invasion that will keep in foreign territory until Feb. 29. There hadn’t been much to
0 choose between the two teams as os | they went into the third period of
last night's game. Each scored a
é2igoal in the second period, and it
was still anybody’s game. But Capital stock slumped midway in the. session when Harold Jackson and Wilfie Starr made a successful invasion of the Hoosiers’ territory. Too eager to deadlock the game, Indianapolis slighted its defense, and Providence was down for another, Jack Shill tallying this one. There were less than three minutes to go now, and caution wasn't going to get the Capitals any place, so Manager Herbie Lewis turned loose five offensive men. The Reds broke for the unguarded Indianapolis goal, and Archie Wilder did the only thing possible under the circumstances. He upset the cage-bound Diz Desilets from the rear, which cost him a two-minute sentence and gave Mr. Desilets a penalty shot. The Providence winger scored, giving the Reds a 4-1 margin. Less than five seconds remained when the Capitals put their second goal of the evening into the net. Hec Kilrea poked the disc past Phil Stein after the Caps had bunched themselves around the cage. _ Capitals Sec Red (4 to 2 Kind) # As Their ‘Crown’ Totters
there was not time to do further damage. - The first period should have been entitled “The Puck I Left Behind Me.” Both teams, but the Capitals especially, found it hard transporting the disc, and several times the icers approached the goal with nothing on their sticks but the tape. Red Doran fired what he thought was the first Providence goal midway in the period, but Referee Ag Smith disallowed it, pointing out to Mr. Doran that the crease was overloaded with players at the time. Big Jack shill was to blame for all this. He came crashing into the offensive zone like a runaway bowling ball and spilled over a quintet of assorted Capitals and Regls, some of whom toppled into the restricted area in front of the goal. Shill’s bumping apparently annoyed Ron Hudson, and after the latter’s unsuccessful goal hunt a moment later, Ron was ready to
settle the argument, with or without
sticks. The disagreement cost both a two-minute stay on the sidelines. Goalie Alfie Moore did a bit of sensational work near the end of the period. Bob Whitelaw and Art Giroux were fighting for possession of the disc a few feet in front of the Indianapolis cage. Alfie quietly left his station, crawled between to two and buried the puck in his heavy rigging. Providence Traffic Heavy
Providence’ was undermarined twice in the second session while Wilson and, Steele were doing stretches, but the Caps were unable to crack the Reds’ five-man defense. The Reds tallied first at 14:35 when Steele, with the help of Doran and Desilets, skidded the wafer past Moore. Kilrea and Carl Liscombe set up the Capitals’ first goal. Both went into the attacking area, but ran into heavy Providence traffic. There were a couple of pokes, and the puck was out of the tangle and right in position for Bob Gracie, the Caps’ new center. Gracie, a little to the left of the cage, neatly slammed the puck into the meshes. Summary:

To Meet Steele
Dick Raines, the 240-pound “Texas Tornado,” no sooner asked for the main go spot on the Armory mat card next Tuesday night, when his
wish was granted and he was pitted]
against Ray Steele, 218, skilled Californian. Steele is the husky who has posted a $1000 forfeit with the Indiana State Athletic Commission for a shot at Bronko Nagurski, the heavyweight champ. According to Sam Murbarger, State athletic commissioner, Nagurski must face Steele with 30 days or his title will be vacated. Murbarger is chairman of the rating committee of the National Wrestling Association. Ray won in consecutive falls over Hans Kampfer here last week Dick flopped Hans Schnable here last Tuesday, but after being awarded the verdict, he was disqual-
{ified by the referee who ruled that
Raines continued his rough tactics after the bout was over. The SteeleRaines encounter is for two falls out of three.
