First Graders to Entertain Mothers \— Extensive preparations have been made by Grade 1 pupils at Orchard School for the Valentine party they will have this afternoon for their mothers at the school. Refreshments? Nothing to it. The Grade 1-ers baked up a batch of cookies themselves in their little stoves right in the classroom. They. will serve, too. They planned their own program and made their own Valentine decorations. As favors for their mothers, the children haye made shadow - silhouettes of themselves in red paper mounted on large white hearts. Mrs. Helen Surprise is class teacher.

Nominated for Mount Holyoke Trustee

Mrs. Thor Griffeth Wesenberg, assistant professor of English at Butler University and active in civic and educational organizations, is one of three Mount Holyoke alumnae who have been nominated for the position of alumnae trustee of Mount Holyoke College. Nominations were made at an alumnae council meeting held over the week-end at the school and attended by Mrs. J. Perry Meek. The trustee will be elected in the spring. Mrs. Wesenberg’s - nomination was made by the Indiana Mount Holyoke Club and was endorsed by the Genesee Valley (N. Y.) Mount Holyoke Club. Mrs. Wesenberg was president of the Indianapolis Woman's Club in 1937-38 and has been head of the Indiana Association of Deans and Advisers of Women and Girls. She is active in the National Association of Deans of Women, the National Council of Teachers of English, The Contemporary Club and the Indianapolis League of Women Voters.

School Poster Contest Judges Named

Mrs. G. H. A. Clowes has named Wilbur Peat, director of John Herron Art Museum; Donald Mattison, director of the Art Institute, and Charles Yaeger, head of the Manual High School art department, as judges for the poster contest being sponsored in connection .with the Children’s Symphony concert March 9 at the Murat. . Posters are being completed by pupils in the city’s junior high schools and will be judged Monday. Prize awards for the winners will be given at the concert by Fabien Sevitzky, conductor. A letter contest also is being conducted in the schools and prizes for winning ones also will be presented. Mrs. Alexander Holliday is in charge of the letter contest. The program for the concert includes “The Star-Spangled Banner” (Key); the Overture to Rossini’'s “Barber of Seville;” “Five Miniatures” (White); “Darling Nellie Gray (Foster); “Charlie Is My Darling;” “America” (Bloch), and “Italian Overture” (Dubensky).

will give tomorrpw afternoon in Block’s auditorium, ) Mrs. Eugehe Fife will review “Devil's Disciples” (Shaw) and a musical program will be presented by Mrs. Andrew Ross, organist; Russell Terhune, .pianist, and Lewis Mader, violinist, accompanied™ by Miss Charlotte Crist. A skit, “Mount Vernon Follies,” will be presented and the Colonial Singers will present selections. A group of Technical High School students will dance the minuet and a living picture of “The Spirit of "76” will be presented. Hostess chairmen and their assistants will be in: colonial costume. Mrs. David Ross and Mrs. A. J. Hueber will preside at the tea table. Hostesses will be Mesdames AP, Ellison, H. W. Southard, Galen Doyal, Carl Kelly, L. C. Ballard, Max H. Norris, T. W. Davidson, W. H. Sharp, E. L. Burnett, Julia Belle Tutewiler, George Carter, A. H. Brethauer and William Hodgson.

Songs by Patricia Snyder, dancing by Dick Pierce, a singing chorus, and music by Dick Lieber and his orchestra will be included in the third act. Misses Barbara Kiger, Doris Woods and Dorothy Ofttinger are act chairmen and Miss Charlotte Bruce and Miss Barbara Turner are faculty sponsors. Following selections by Miss Natalie Ratliff on the accordian a group of roller skaters will present the last act. Miss Betty Miller and Miss Dorothy Beyers, act chairmen, will lead the skating. Miss Martha Smith, Mrs. Gertrude Weathers and Mrs. Thelma S. Clarke are faculty Sponsors.

‘Sweetheart’ To Be Chosen

A “Sweetheart” will be chosen at the annual Riviera Club Sweet~ heart Dance Friday night in the Club ballroom. The Reveliers have hominated to compete for the title the Misses Betty Staudt, Maribeth Milles, Jeanne Taylor, Betty Tolin, Jayne Schmalhelz and Betty Robinson. Girls of the club will stage a Leap Year dance Thursday evening Feb. 29, making the dates, paying the bills and providing their escorts with carrot corsages. Miss Staudt and Miss Miriam Edwards are in charge of arrangements. Alfred W. Place will speak on . “Highlights of Japan” at a buffet supper to be given ‘at 6:30 p. m. Sunday by the Riviera Boosters. Dr. George King will preside. The semi-annual election of officers for the Boosters ‘will be held at an informal dance Friday, Feb. 23 in the main ballroom.
