Bilica Claim Upstate Man ‘Confesses Connection ~ With Bombings. ix SOUTH BEND, Ind. Feb. 13 (U. -P.)~Police said today that Earl

, 40, of: near South Bend, had confessed to complicity in a

series of bombings of power line|

towers and poles in Northern Indi--ana and Southern Michigan last year. They also charged that his statement implicated John A. Marks, 36, of Michigan City. Marks, a business agent for the International Brotherhood of Electrical | Workers, was implicated earlier in the investigation by a -statement of Parrish E.' Freeman, 30, of Michigan City, a cousin of Earl Freeman. Authorities say that Parrish Freeman and Frank Lung, 25, of South. Bend, have pleaded guilty to St. Joseph County charges. in connection with the case while the former also allegedly has admitted * his guilt to Federal anti-racketeering charges filed by U. 8S. District Attorney James Fleming. Also held in connection with the case is Frank Yax, 25, of Kalamazoo, Mich. Authorities announced yesterday that seven dynamite sticks, several percussion caps and some fuse were found Saturday near a sub-station'of the Indiana and Michigan Electric Co.

P).— Prime Minister Neville Chamber= ‘lain was cheered in the House of , Commons today when- he an=nounced that Sumner Welles, United States Undersecretary of State, would be taken into the. full confidence of the British Government when he visits here. Mr. Welles’ mission to London, Paris, Rome and Berlin, being undertaken at the orders of President. Roosevelt, was made the subject of a question addressed to the Prime Minister by Laborite Arthur Greenwood, deputy leader of the opposition.

‘Uncle Billy’ Martin Welcomes Delegates to His 46th State Convention.

W. K. (Uncle Billy) Martin, Crawfordsville, honorary president of the Indiana Association of Ice Industries, passed out delegate ribbons today as the 47th annual convention got under way at the Severin Hotel. This was the 46th convention that Mr. Martin has attended. He said it would have been his 47th if he

held. Mr. Martin is president of the Crawfordsville Ice and Cold Storage Co. and has been in the ice business since the days the blocks were cut from lakes and stteams in thé winter freezes and stored in saw dust for summer use. _ Mr, Martin also is president of the Citizens National Bank of Crawfordsville and treasurer of the National Association of Ice Industries. About 200 delegates are expected and sessions run through Thursday. Fred Standish, Bedford, Indiana Association executive secretary, addressed the group this morning.

in February, 1933, was shot in the back last night as he sat in a trackless trolley at North and West Sts. Police were told that two youths were examining a revolver and that it exploded. The bullet went through [the back of the east and wounded Mr. Standard, they said. The youths fled when the trolley stopped at .an intersection for which it was slowing when the shot was fired. Mr. Standard was taken to City Hospital. The gangsters got $1869 in the machine-gun raid of the motor coach company in 1933. Mr. Standard was employed there and called police: when he heard the gunmen in another room.

La Guardia to Charlie Horowitz, a taxicab driver, participated last night in a memorial service attended by 10,000 persons. The service for the late newspaper columnist and president of the American Newspaper Guild, was in the form of a “biographical narration” in which the highlights of his career were outlined in chronological sequence.
