May. Announcement was made of a forum on public affairs to be sponsored by the Illinois Federation of Clubs March 6 and 7 in the Palmer House in Chicago. Miss Katrina Haramy, Jerusalem, Palestine, spoke on her life in Jerusalem at the meeting this morning. Mrs. I. I. Poston, Martinsville; Mrs. Frederick G. Balz, Mrs. Fred Ball, Rushville, and Mrs. Jaqua, were io present reports of the recent board meeting in Washington following a luncheon. At an executive board meeting yestérday, statements of policy of the General Federation, accepted at a recent meeting of the national organization board were reviewed and approved. The state board approved continuance of the Dies Investigating Committee. The board also approved the educational work of the music appreciation committee. The statements of policy, approved yesterday, probably will be the background for resolutions to be presented at the state convention in June.
Policy Is Outlined
It is the federation’s responsibility, according to the policy outline, to help overcome the enemies of democracy—fear, prejudice and hate —and to create an intelligent and courageous public opinion which will strengthen the forces of democracy so that no opportunity may be lost by our Government to assist in securing a just settlement of the present conflict. Another policy statement was for ‘the continuance of the reciprocal trade agreements program in its present form and the dedication of the American home department of the federation to a mission of education, inspiration and guidance. Mrs. Oscar A. Ahlagren, Whiting, first vice president, met yesterday with department chairmen and Mrs. W. D. Keenan, second vice president, met with district heads. Both groups joined for a luncheon followed by a discussion by Mrs. W. S. Bittner, Indiana University, on:con- - ducting forums. 3
