Non-Partisan League Aid Is Bitter After, Charges : Of Forgery.
WASHINGTON, Jan. 31 (U. P). —The Dies Commiftee was accused today of using “smearing tactics” and “sensationalizefl distortion” in g public a report of testimony by a witness who,| the Committee said, admitted forging letters to link Chairman [artin Dies (D. Tex.) with the Silver Shirts organization. .The Committee was criticized bitterly by Gardner Jackson, legislative representtive of Labor’s NonPartisan League, political arm of the Congress of Industrial Organizations, and by Harolfl Weisberg, who was accused by the witness of offering, under Mr. Jackson’s direction, $100 for - information which would show ‘“dire¢tly or circumstantially” that there was a collusion between Di Dudley Pelley, Silver Shirts leader. Services for Mrs. Louise Eleanore Noempner, who died at the home « a nephew, John C. Kissel, 7600 Fawles Ave., yesterday, will be held ‘et 2 p. m. tomorrow at the Emnaus Lutheran Church with burial a: Concordia. Mrs. Woempner, mother of Emil c. Woempner, business manager of , was a lifelong resident of Marion ounty. She was 76 and a member of the Emmaus Lutheran Church. Mrs. Woempner was born on a farm on the Post Road in Marion County. She attended the county schools and on Aug. 25, 1887, was married to Christian Woempner, a carpenter. They moved to Indianapolis the following year. He died in 1931. _ Other survivors include a son, Herbert J.; three sisters, Mrs. Mary el, MTS. Sophia Kissel and Miss tine Naue, and two brothers, Henry and William Naue, all of Indianapolis. Friends may call at the home of her son, Emil, Raymond St. and Ritter Ave. until the services are held.
ELECTRICAL GROUP MEETS TOMORROW
About 200 persons are are expected to attend the two-day convention of the Indiana chapter of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors at the Antlers Hotel toMorrow. A dinner dance will be held at the Antlers ballroom at 7 p. m. tomorrow and election of officers Friday will adjourn the meeting. Among speakers will be Arthur L. Abbott, New York; Robert A. Rearden, Indianapolis’ Arthur Welklin, Ft. Wayne; Victor H. Tousley, Chicago, and George Morrow, Indianapolis. R. P. Services will be held Friday for Thomas J. McDonald who died yesterday at his home, 3414 Brookside Parkway. He was 76. Born at Clarksburg, Mr. McDonald had been employed here for 40 years by the Indianapolis Drop Forge Co. The 8:30 a. m. services will be held at the residence and additional services will be at the St. Francis de Sales Church at 9 a. m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. George F. Brewer, 220 N. Gray St., injured when he fell from a scaffold Dec. 4, died yesterday at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was T4. A native of Daviess County, Mr. Brewer had resided in Indianapolis. 33 years. He was a member of the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. The services will be conducted at 8:30 a. m. Friday at the residence and at 9 a. m. at the church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mary, and

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. Jan. 31.— A Rockefeller Foundation grant of $20,000 to aid research in cytogenetics, the study of plant and animal cell developmeni, was ‘announced here today. : The research will be conducted under the direction of Profs. Ralph E. Cleland of the botany department and Tracy M. Sonneborn of {the zoology department. The grant will finance the research for five years. Dr. Cleland has pursued his study of the evening primrose several
years and was formerly at. Goucher d | College.

Indiana is one of the three leading states in the nation in rural electrification projects, E. ID. Munger of Washington, REA utilization division chief; told about 600 Indiana
hardware dealers at their conven-
tion here this morning. The convention is peing held in connection with an exposition at the Murat Temple. About 1500 persons are expected to attend before. the meetings close tomorrow. @ - Mr. Munger said each person utilizing REA service spends about $300 in hardware appliances in the first 10 months of the service. He said they buy electric irons first, then radios, washing machines, ice boxes and toasters in that order. Other speakers this morning were D. Wray DePrez of Shelbyville, speaking on increase of sales after high-line extensions, and Philip K. McDowell of Hibben-Hollweg & Co. of Indianapolis. Mr. McDowell discussed “How to Keep a Retail Hardware Business Liquid.” Veach C. Redd of Cynthiana, Ky., a former national association president, presented plans for holding a “National Hardware Opén House.” This would be a kind of “Hardware Day” to make the nation hardware conscious, he said. ‘Election of officers and presentation of resolutions will be held tomorrow. The convention will close tomorrow and the exposition will remain open through Friday morning.
