Mrs. Herbert M. Woollen, general chairman in charge of the preconcert luncheons and lectures held in the Athenaeum 10 times each season under the auspices of the women’s committee of the Indiana State Symphony Society, will preside over the sixth of these affairs at noon next Friday. The luncheon will precede the week-end "concerts to be played in the Murat Theater that afternoon and the following evening by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Fabien Sevitzky. i State members of Psi Iota Xi Sorority will occupy the usual table reserved for the group’ at all luncheons. Hostesses have been chosen from the Indianapolis chapter: Mrs. Leslie Eberts and Mrs. Mary Kath_erine Roberts. Dr. Van Denman Thompson, head of the DePauw University School of *Music, will give a talk explaining the program to be played by the orchestra, stressing particularly the four vocal compositions to be sung with the orchestra by Richard Crooks, tenor, who will be soloist for the concerts. Both the luncheon and lecture are open to members of the women’s committee and to concert patrons. No reservations are necessary for the lecture, which will begin at 1:30, but reservations for the luncheon must be received at the orchestra’s Murat Theater headquarters before 5 p. m. Wednesday.

Garden Lovers Forget Snow for Lecture

Garden lovers in Indianapolis and vicinity will forget about snow and sub-zero teniperatures next Wednesday afternoon for a couple of hours to attend a special illustrated lec-

ture on gardens prepared by the

Massachusetts Horticultural Society, and presented free of charge by the public library in Central Library auditorium, Meridian and St. Clair Sts. Two series of colored slides and accompanying descriptive material, compiled under the personal direction of Edward J. Farrington, editor of Horticulture magazine will be shown, 2 The series is entitled ‘Flowering Shrubs from Frost to Frost” and “Color in the Garden the Year Around.” Officers of the Garden Club of Indiana, meeting in Indianapolis at that time, will be special guests at the lecture.
