JANE JORDAN
DEAR JANE JORDAN—What would you think of a man who says he loves you yet always breaks appointments? We ‘met a year ago and were going steady until he dated the girl with whom I share my apartment. Then we had our first quarrel. He said he was going out with others to make sure he really cared. I love him dearly and there is nothing I wouldn’t do for him. Are there any hearts in men? I'm beginning to think they all love themselves. This is not my first love, yet I'm more sure this one is real. He says he cares, yet hurts me in so many ways. New Year's eve he failed me again. We had made plans to go to my folks. He knew what it meant to me for I hadn't seen them in so long. 1 waited for hours and he didn’t come. Next day he was over. There was no real reason why he couldn’t make it. He just had too many drinks. I finally gave up the thought that he would change and told him to go. He said I'd be calling him to come back. Here I am blue and lonely. Although I know other friends, my heart is too sad to be gay in the crowd. Should I take him back and see him when I can, or do you think there is someone who is worth waiting for? I would love to get married. I don't like these party days. SO BLUE. ® 8 = ® 8 8 !
Answer—When a man consistently fails to keep his appointments with a woman, and turns up with such lame excuses, it indicates an extremely weak interest in her. Declarations of love under such circumstances are completely valueless and carry no conviciion whatever. The only sensible thing you can do is to accept the fact that you mean nothing to him. You did right to send him away. Now stick to your decision. In reality you do not love the man any way. His characteristics are abhorrent to you. What you love is your own ideal which you've projected onto him, and it doesn’t exist in fact. You wish him to be thus and so but he never fulfills your wishes. He
~ says you'll be calling him back. This shows what a goof he believes
ou to be. y Only a woman whose self-esteem was at extremely low ebb would put up with such treatment. When you feel blue remember it isn’t the man himself whom you miss but the feeling you had for him. To sit back and say, “all men are alike,” is ridiculous, for they aren't alike. It is better to ask yourself what there iz in you that
attracts unstable, irresponsible men. The reason you fail in love is
that: you choose men who foredoom you to failure. In other words, you are the architect of your-own misfortunes in love. Don’t hang on to defeat so stubbornly. What have you done that you should punish yourself in this fashion? Pull yourself together and go out with your other friends. You can enjoy yourself if you will make a determined effort to do so. All is not lost because one man has disappointed you. Try again. JANE JORDAN,

SEVERAL READERS write for more Swedish recipes. Here are a few pretty smooth answers, though they are on the saucy side.

Boil for exactly two minutes. Remove from fire, add yolks and beat briskly. Return to very low fire and continue to beat until sauce thickens. Do not allow it to boil again. Remove from fire and continue to beat until sauce is ccld. Then add vanilla, mix, Chill, That comes from Hans Kegik, chef at the Swedish Pavilion at the New York World's Fair. He says Americans can’t seem to get enough of the Swedish fruit compotes served with this smooth sauce. He suggests these other sauces for smorgesbord, or cold buffet.
