1526 Painting Is Uncovered
BERLIN, Jan. 18 (U. P.) —Experts of the Kaiser Friedrich Museum announced today that a hitherto unknown painting by the famous master, Lukas Cranach, had been dis-
covered in the village church of
Grossgievitz in Mecklenburg. The experts said the the authenticity of the painting had been established and that it dated from 1526. It represents “the Virgin Mary
with Child under an apple tree.”
Restoration of the painting and
‘its wooden frames will take about six months. Cranach was one of the most famous of medieval painters.
28. His condition has been serious and today was “just about the same.” Dr. Putnam came to the University from the University of Missouri in 1909 as an economics professor. He was vice president from 1919 to 1934 and became president in 1935. He assisted the university through what has been described as its most critical period, when Butler's membership in the North Central Association for Colleges and Secondary Schools was threatened.
