Action Effective on Jan. 16; 28 Area Offices to Be Abolished,
Administrative reofgaitisation of the Indiana WPA, in conformity ‘with a new national. administrative plan for all state WEA ‘organiza. tions, was announced today ‘by John K. Jennings, Indiang administrator. The plan, to becom@ effective Jan. 16, calls for the abolitiom of 28 In-| diana area offices which are to he absorbed by the state's: five district offices. Personnel in the: area offices will be shifted to the gdictrict organizations with no loss" “of personnell, Mr. Jennings said. In commenting; on the new organization, he said:: - “In the first place, I believe the new organization will enable us to keep closer check on WPA opera-. tions. It will prevent recurrence of misapplication of WPA labor. 7 “Under the present setup, WPA | officials have been considerably em‘barrassed in Congressional hearings iby the divergence of administrative I: organization in the various states. This plan is nation-wide and every . state will operate exactly the same, |. administratively, as every “other | | state.” || Mr. Jennings said that while the new plan would entail several radical ‘changes far most states, it would not affect materially ‘the Indiana WPA organization, which now follows most of the features of the plan.
