Trustees Here May Seek Federal Food Stamp Plan
Nine Marion. County township trustees were to meet at 2 p. m. today to discuss prospects of bringing the Federal Surplus Commodities Corp. food stamp plan to Indianapolis. The meeting was to be held in the office of Edward Brennan, State Board of Accounts chief examiner. The food stamp plan provides a means of distributing surplus foodstuffs through normal business channels. If brought to Indianapolis, recipients of trustee relief orders would receive blue stamps for
half the value of their food orders.]
These would buy surplus foods. The stamps would be redeemed by the Federal Government. Persons receiving relief funds, such as WPA workers, would be allowed to purchase orange stamps
in the amount of their food budget
and also would be given half that amount in blue stamps. The orange stamps would be good for any foodstuff in any grocery, while the blue stamps would buy only surplus commodities. The present township relief setup of preferential stores where reLlief recipients must trade is viewed as a barrier to bringing the stamp plan to Indianapolis. The trustees are expected to discuss the possibility of removing this system.

Seeks to Avoid Duplication And Give Assistance to Deserving Projects.
The first steps toward establishing a clearing house for all kinds of research work being done ‘in Indiana in the fields of science, sociology, arts and economics were taken today by the State Planning Board. Prof. G. E. Lommel, of Purdue University, chairman of the State Board, said members outlined a state-wide survey at a meeting in the State House. “We will attempt fo find out what research is being dohe in Indiana and who is doing it,” he said. “With these facts the Board can pave the way - for establishing a clearing house for all this work and eliminate duplication of efforts.”
Research Duplicated
Board members explained that research work in the various fields is being duplicated in many universities and governmental institutions in Indiana. “For instance, Purdue University may be spending money on extensive research on ‘some engineering problem while at the same time some private firm or individual may be doing the same thing,” Prof. Lommel said. Also, the program will open new opportunities to talented individuals who have been struggling on valuable research work without funds or public assistance, Board members

5 BIDS OPENED ON
CITY PARKS’ FUEL
Bids for 840 tons of coal and coke for the City Park Department were opened today by A. C., Sallee, City park superintendent. Although the department had advertised for bids and had received requests for bid forms from 16 bidders, only six bids were received, The 840 tons represents about onefourth of the total fuel tonnage used by the Park Department each year. Mr, Sallee said the Park Department would join with other City departments after May 1 in advertising for joint coal bills. The joint bidding plan, which has been tried successfully for gasoline for four City departments, will be extended to cover coal purchasing when existing coal contracts held by other departments expire next spring. Mr. Sallee ordered J. Edward Perry, park engineer, to tabulate the bids for presentation to the Park Board next week.
