JANE JORDAN—

DEAR JANE JORDAN--I am a girl of 17. There is a young man who comes to our house once in a while, My father knows him and his father well, but he didn't introduce us when the young man came over. I have seen him a few times and I like him very much. I hear he asks about me quite a bit. Tf he wanted to go with me don’t vou think he would ask me? I used to run around a lot, but now 1 stav home all the time, No bovs ever ask me for any dates; Should T start going places and forget this boy, or should I just stav home. 1 worry because boys don't want dates with me. Should I let it bother me? WORRIED. vw YW Ww * ® w A girl of 17 should have a lot of friends, both bovs and stav at home and moon about one bhov, Tf all it should bother vou, for friends are

s0 that is why TI stay home,

Answer girls, She should not vou have no friends at important to a happy life, In sddition to freindships, & girl of 17 needs a task. T take it that vou are in school. This gives vou work to do which is just as important to vour welfare as friendships. There are three major adjustments to make in life-—work, love and social adjustment, Your energies should be evenly divided among the three so that no one gets too much emphasis. Sometimes, during adolesence, young people behave as if there were only one problem in life to solve, namely, love, or success with the opposite sex. In general, the girl who has many interests to take up her time is the one who finds it easiest to attract bovs. The same quality that makes her a participator in many activities makes it easy for her to get along with men. It is the girl who retreats from all forms of competition who has trouble in winning friends. When the young man you mention comes to your home, by all means be friendly. cordial and encouraging. Instead of waiting for vour father to introduce vou, or shyly retreating in a corner to won der how you impress him, don’t be afraid to show your interest. Try to tear vour thoughts loose from the moorings of self and find out what the young man thinks about, Where does he work or go to school, who are his friends, ‘what sports does he like, what movies has he seen, what is he striving for. If vou feel enough curiosity about these things, you'll have the courage to draw him out with a few questions. Usually the shy girl actually isn't curious about the other fellow. She is too absorbed in herself and her own emotions to feel a genuine, warm interest in another person. This lack of interest is the real secret of her failure to acquire friends of either SeX. Tn other words, an interested girl is an interesting girl, The girl who loves others is beloved by others, JANE JORDAN. Put your prow Fane. Jor N ens in a a yp Ving Th Ad ‘will answer your questions
