Famed in song and story are the cheer and good fellowship which flow from Ye Olde Wassail Bowl. While it isn’t exactly arule, it’s a mighty nice Christmas custom, this Wassail Bowl, and after having putone together the other day just for practice, I'm more for it than ever: It’s quite a rite, but if you follow this recipe carefully, there's no reason why your Wassail Bowl shouldn't be the talk of the town. Here it is:

Boliday Jingles

Every time the Christmas holiday season comes round, I hanker for the old-time jingles we used to have before the autos took over the streets. 1 don’t mean the kind you get on Christmas cards. I mean the merry jingles made by sleigh-bells. Every team in the city used to have a set, and mighty pleasant they sounded. The bells on Falls City’s big teams, which the delivery trucks displaced, had their own special tone. You could hear them all over the city, often late at night in the holiday season. The sound was as friendly, pleasant, and

mellow &s Hi-Bru itself.

Quite a Card

One of the jolliest Christmas cards I ever got was written by Oswald Cooper, America’s foremost type-designer. 1 get a chuckle out of it every time I read it. “Tradesmen of every sort, from mercer to green-grocer, scurrying about as if never in such a chaff; timid gentlemen, that durst hardly adventure within the shops, jingling their co’ns before the windows; porters and all manner of servants saying how fair the weather is, in hopes to beguile a reluctant shilling; from the kitchen, sweet savours that do but whet an appetite already sharp set upon the victuals; from the family up-stairs, too much noise; from one’s own family, toc many neckties; at taverns, wassail, whatever that is.” “Well,” as Titus Livius said to the Carthaginians, “Have a good time, boys, but git down early Tuesday morning; we gotta ship that order of

red herrings on the Century.”
