FIRM APPEALS JOB INSURANCE ORDER

First appeal from a decision of the State Unemployment Compensation Division involving unemployment benefits was on file in Circuit Court today.

The appeal was taken by Mammoth Life and Accident Insurance Co. of Kentucky which lost its case before the State Board. The Board ruled that Cho McKinney, an agent for the instirance company in this territory from 1920 to May, 1939, was entitled to unemployment compensation dating from the tere mination of his employment, The company contends that Mr. McKinney was not an employee of the company, but was considered as an independent contractor and for that reason was not entitled to compensation, The State Board made its decision Nov. 21.

And Theyre Growing, Says Snethen

If William P. Snethen had anything to do with it there wouldn't

be any apartments in Indianapolis. Not that Mr, Snethen is against apartments. He's all for them. He's manager of the Apartment Association of Indianapolis, and he would change the name to “multiple dwellings.” They used to call apartments “flats,” and today Mr, Snethen says, “apartment is a misnomer, An apartment is a part of anything. Multiple dwellings are what they really are and what they should be called.” The change would affect about one-eighth of the people of Indianapoiis because one eighth of the dwelling units here are apartments, according to association figures. Another thing Ma Snethen can

tell you because his chief interest is housing Indianapolis residents, is that the city is growing at the rate of about 3000 a year and that next year’s census will show a city population of 395,000. And apartment buildings are being constructed to meet the growth. Marcy Village, 19 buildings with more than 270 units, already is being rented and will be ready for occupfhcy Jan. 15. The constructor (Is E. A. Carson and it will be {managed by the H. H. Woodsmall Agency, Inc. Also under construction, by S. C. Bodner, is a building at 3310 N. Meridian St. with 36 units, Another being built is on Bellefontaine St. in Broad Ripple with 36 units. On the other hand, the Shiel at

220 N. Illinois St. with its 80 units is scheduled to come down,

During this year there were built and made ready for occupancy, the Fairfield Colonial, with 56 units, at Central Ave. 34th St. and Fairfield | Ave, and the Harrison at 1320 N. | Delaware St. with 84 units, A number of older houses were converted mto apartment buildings, providing an additional 60 to 75 units. The average rental of apartment buildings this year was good, according to Mr. Snethen, He estimates that current vacancies are not more than 5 per cent. In the area covered by Indian|apolis City letter carriers, there are (mow 14,790 multiple suites. This is a gain of 1034 over 1930, all in the [type classified as ‘modern,”
