Big Welcome Ready for Vacationing College Students

The “Welcome Home” mat is being put out at many an Indianapolis home this week as parents, brothers, sisters, uncles and aunts eagerly anticipate the arrival of

the college crowd for the holidays.

John Richard Brant Jr. arrived Saturday to spend the holidays with his mother, Mrs. Chauncey Eno II, and Mr. Eno. He is a student at Western Military Academy, Alton, Ill. . . . Wednesday is the day Betty Woodbury has promised the H. G. Woodburys that she will be coming home from Stephens College. Mrs. Woodbury expects to do a bit informal entertaining for her during the vacation. Incidentally, Betty has been distinguishing herself in swimming events at the school. . . . Paul Fisher, son of the Paul E. Fishers, is already home. Miss Anne Elder, the Bowman Elders’ daughter, will come home Thursday from Vassar. ... Miss Evelyn Lilly, a daughter of Mrs. Frederic Clay Bartlett of Beverly, Mass, is coming on the same day to spend the holidays with her father, Eli Lilly, and Mrs. Lilly.

Children of Revolution to Dine Dec. 27

Then there is that crowd home from schools which is planning on attending the annual dinner and dance of the Old Glory Society, Children of the American Revolution. The dinner, Dec. 27, will be at the Propylaeum and dancing will be at the D. A. R. Chapter House. Betty Best is coming from Bradford Junior College and will be on hand for the event. From DePauw University will be Susanne Clark, Wilma Rothenburger and Dan Taylor. Donald Dickson and Fred Jones will be over from Purdue. Marjorie Northrup and Peggy Winslow are to be here for the holidays and the dance. Harriet Jane Holmes will represent Radcliffe and Mary Ellen Voyles, an alumnae, also is planning to attend. Anne Holmes will be home from Vassar. Incidentally, the Holmes girls are to entertain with a dinner party at the Indianapolis Athletic Club Dec. 23 before the performance of “Any Moment Now” by the Princeton Triangle Club at the Murat.

Orchard Has Full Program For Christmas

Pageant Friday Morning Will Be Climax to Holiday Events.

Christmas observance at Orchard School this year includes the providing of toys and clothing for a Christmas party given by a public health clinic, a caroling trip, and the presentation of a pageant as the climax of the festivities. | For several years the school has provided toys and clothing for the Christmas party given by the Public Health Clinic located at School 5. Grade 6 with Miss Mary Vance Trent in charge, has collected the toys and clothing, dramatizing the appeal with original skits presented at the noon lunch assembly.

A reminder note also was sent to the school families. The pupils went on a shopping trip and supplemented the toys and garments collected, and bought fruit for the party. Grade 5 Group to Sing Gordon H. Thompson, director of Orchard School, Miss Mary Anne Beaumont and Miss Frances A. Wishard of the music department, and other faculty members will accompany the caroling group on its rounds early Thursday evening. It is an annual custom to sing carols at the homes of several patrons and friends. The carolers will be girls and boys from Grade 5 up. Several children will play their Dushkin flutes or English recorders, woodwind instruments that were very popular in England and on the

Four scenes will be presented: “A Street in Bethlehem,” “The Three Kings in the Desert,” “The Shepherds on the Hillside” and the Nativity scene.
