MINTON BUILDS FENCES FOR '40

Senator Visits With Local Democratic Figures on Visit to City.

(D. Ind) was visiting local Demo- | cratic political figures today plan-

ning his 1940 campaign for re-elec-tion.

Asked if he intended to announce his 1940 campaign during his stay, the Senator replied: “I'm running now.” So far no opposition has devel-! oped to the junior Senator's can- |

didacy for renomination at the state convention next year. Senator Minton has been visiting | his family at New Albany several days after a 12,000-mile tour of i U. S. defense areas. He came here yesterday to engage in some private | law practice. He appeared as an attorney for: a New Albany transfer company in| a hearing before the Public Service| Commission. He sought to get the Commission's permission for the transfer company to operate a ‘ freight line. Discussing his defense tour, Sen-| ator Minton said the “nation will be | pretty well defended” when the defense program authorized by Con- | gress is completed. He spent more than an hour with U. 8S. Attorney Val Nolan yesterday but declined comment on what they . talked about. |

“There's a great deal of work to this job,” says Mrs. Henninger. “You'd be surprised how these veterans insist they can handle themselves.” Mr. Henninger is stooped quite a bit now. He has trouble seeing (clearly more than a few feet away. But he remembers all about the | Civil War. He says the three greatjest thrills of his life came during the war, all while he was still young. “They were, chronologically speaking, when I passed my physical examination, when I got my uniform and gun, and when the South surrendered,” he said. | Superior Court Judge Henry O. Goett today made arrangements to bring to Indianapolis an Ohio State University professor to make a unique blood test to determine the parentage of a 16-month-old baby. If made, the results of the test will be the first to be admitted in| court as evidence by any Indiana State court judge. Furthermore, the decision, depending on outcome of the case, might be tested by the Indiana Supreme Court. The test was proposed in an effort to determine the outcome of a divorce case, in which a 16-month-old baby figures. The child's mother, 21, brought the divorce action and seeks custody of the child. The father, in a cross complaint, also seeks the lchild’s custody. In support of her claim for the child the mother | filed an affidavit charging her husband is not the father of the child.
