CITY GAS USERS Census Directors Learn How It's Done SET NEW MARK Ft

November Consumption Hits Highest Monthly Total In Local History.

Gas consumption in November reached the highest volume for a single month in the City's history, the Citizens Gas & Coke Utility announced today. The total consumption, 354.042 000 cubic feet, represented an increase of 10 per cent over that of November, 1938. The Nov. 27 gas send-out to consumers, 14,611,000 cubic feet, was an all-time high for a single day.! The number of meters in service also set a new record high with, 88.814 meters. November was the 10th consecutive month in which a new meter record was set. The number in use last month was a! gain of 3512 over the same month a vear ago. BOARD DELAYS BUYING TRUCKS

Works Body to Ask Local Users About Their Experiences.

Works Board members reached an impasse today in considering eight bids for two large trucks

which the Board wants to purchase for use as cement mixers at the City Asphalt Plant. Members conferred yesterday with representatives of large truck manufacturers. The meeting was attended by City Councilman Ernest C. Ropkey, Democrat, who was delegated by Council President Joseph G. Wood to supervise the purchase. Members also inspected trucks which were displayed By the concerns competing for the City's business at the Municipal Garage. They decided to seek the opinion of large truck users in the City on the merits of various makes of trucks. Bids submited by the right truck manufacturers ranged from $2086 to $3450, but the Board members and Mr. Ropkey said they would not

satisfied they were getting “the best truck for the money.”
