scored a 37-15 victory over Cathedral .in an intracity tne East Side gym last night, and Shortridge stepped up tae . the final period to down Greenfield, 36-28, at the North Siders’ Sacreq Heart, already downed once, still was unable to hit its stride and yielded to the Clayton five, 24-7.

The other city high

school teams, Manual, Washington, Broad Ripple

and Howe, will begin their campaigns this week-end.

Tech Game Recalls Grid Memories

Football season may be over, but there were still a few echoes from to a 37-15 basketball victory over Cathedral. Pigskin days were recalled right off as Coach Joe Harmon sent out

Was End Larry Geiman at forward, Ott Hurrle at forward,

Center Jim Fitzgerald at center, End

Bernie Moss at guard and Tackle Larry Gerlash at guard. And as if that wasn’t ‘enough, Chuck Howard, Tech's hero of the touchdown wars, started the game by crashing through Cathedral's defense for two field goals. Those four points, incidentally, gave the East Siders an advantage they never relinquished.

Tech Never in Danger

At other times during the game the boys did some involuntary blocking and ball-recovering that

¢ would have warmed the heart of

any football coach. Tech never was in danger after Howard’s early scoring burst, although Cathedral took a delight in breaking up Big Green plays in the forward court and tearing at full speed for the basket. Fitzgerald was the key man in this steal-the-ball stuff.

At the quarter Tech led, 11-7, and increased its margin to 19-11 at the half. After a listless third quarter in which the Big Green made four points and Cathedral two, Tech turned it on and counted 14 points in thé final period.

Howard Sets Pace Howard's four field goals gave

him scoring honors, while lanky) west

Bob Gray, Tech center, ran second with seven points. Frank Buddenbaum, another footballer, netted two flelders and a pair of free throws to rank among the leaders. Geiman scored two first-quarter field goals to pace the losers. Sum(3 FG FT rrIC dden ym.{ 2% ans, ass 1% fries, c. Seplien’ 4: i

Shortridge Crew Spurts to Win

Shortridge’s basketball team staged a fourtii-quarter drive to rout Greenfield's Tigers, 36 to 28, last night at the Noith Side Gym. Dick Gage, Chuck Benjamin and Bob Paddock shared honors for the

d home team, scoring 24 of the win-

ning team’s 36 points. George Grif-

vaders. : After a long shot by guard Dick Gage had put the Blue Devils in the

lead, 2 to 1, Jim Wilson, Greenfield forward, dropped one in to give the Tigers a lead they didn't relinquish until the second half. Although the Greenfield netmen

the second heat while the boys in blue. were making five, they managed to hold a 16-15 lead at the half because of a flood of free throws. Gage gave Shortridge the lead again at the start of the second half but the rest of the third quarter was a seesaw affair as Griffith, Benjamin, and Gage alternated in banging in buckets. The Blue Devils held a 26-25 edge at the end of the quarter. Greenfield's final field goal was made by Hines at the beginning of the last quarter, but then the Blue Devil offense started clicking as Paddock broke under the hoop three times for as many baskets, and Dave Strack loobed in a long one The personal foul plague overtook the out-of-towners as they attempted to launch a counter-offen-sive and the final gun found Shortridge in front. ; Shortridge (36)
